Florida State coach Mike Norvell made it clear Wednesday that Chuck Kennon is done with the program after the freshman cornerback’s arrest earlier this week.
Norvell addressed the dismissal during his media availability, confirming that Kennon was no longer with the Seminoles. The coach didn’t get into the specifics of the case, but he did point to the program’s standards as the reason the move was made.
“He’s no longer a part of the program,” Norvell said. “Obviously disappointing, but there are standards and expectations for our players, for our coaches, for everybody that’s part of the program, and obviously Chauncey didn’t meet those expectations.”
He added that those standards apply across the board, coaches included, while declining to lay out any further details about the arrest or the decision to dismiss Kennon.
The university had already said Kennon was removed from the team for “conduct detrimental to the team.”
New information also came out Wednesday in court, where Kennon appeared on charges of false imprisonment, aggravated fleeing to elude, and resisting an officer without violence. A judge set bonds totaling $8,000 and ordered no contact with the alleged victim. Kennon was also told to remain in Hillsborough County.
According to WCTV, the trouble started around 2 a.m. Saturday when authorities tried to pull over a Dodge Durango for speeding.
Troopers said the vehicle sped up instead, ran a red light, swerved to avoid crossing traffic, and hit a raised curb. The report says a patrol car in pursuit reached 140 mph while the Durango kept pulling away.
After a seven-minute chase, the Durango stopped with a flat front tire. Police identified Kennon as the driver and said he fled on foot.
A passenger later told investigators she asked Kennon to stop "10 times" and let her out because she feared for her life, but he refused.
The report also said the passenger was found “with lacerations to her arm, wearing a bodysuit covered in dirt stains, blood, and grass.”
Kennon had been the highest-rated signee in Florida State’s 2026 recruiting class. The consensus four-star recruit was ranked No. 51 nationally, No. 6 among cornerbacks, and No. 5 among Florida prospects by 247Sports. He played in one game for FSU, against Virginia.

Christian McCaffrey Keeps Giving Stanford Fans A Reason To Watch Sundays
Christian McCaffrey keeps doing what Stanford fans have come to expect on Sundays: finding his way into the end zone and into the middle of the NFL conversation. In Week 5, the former Cardinal helped San Francisco stay unbeaten with a win over Seattle, and his steady production remains one of the clearest links between Stanford Saturdays and pro football Sundays.
He was far from the only former Stanford player making a mark across the league, either, as the weekly roundup again showed how much Cardinal talent is spread around the NFL. For Stanford followers, it is a useful reminder that the program still has plenty of familiar names to track once college football gives way to the pro game, even if the biggest spotlight still tends to follow McCaffrey.
