Up-and-coming Cardinals prospect Joshua Bez impresses with power as the team showcases young talent in a thrilling Spring Breakout win.

Cardinals' Prospects Shine in Spring Breakout Victory

In a thrilling Spring Breakout game at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, the Cardinals' prospects, guided by former Major Leaguer Jason Isringhausen, showcased their potential in a 9-8 victory over the Nationals. Isringhausen, now a special advisor and roving pitching instructor for the team, couldn't hide his satisfaction with the young talent on display.

The game started with the Cardinals trailing 4-0 early on. However, by the sixth inning, they had turned the tables, taking an 8-5 lead.

The rally began with Josh Kross hitting an infield single, bringing home Tai Peete to tie the game at 5-5. The momentum continued as JJ Wetherholt, the Cardinals' top prospect and ranked No. 5 overall by MLB Pipeline, scored the go-ahead run after Rainiel Rodriguez was hit by a pitch.

From there, the Cardinals never looked back.

Isringhausen was particularly impressed with Wetherholt and Joshua Báez, the team's No. 4 prospect and No. 87 overall. Báez blasted a two-run homer in the fifth inning, marking his second career homer in a Spring Breakout game, and helping the Cardinals claw back into contention.

“I’ve been around most of these guys for a while," Isringhausen reflected. "JJ is consistent-he's going to hit and walk.

That’s his game. Josh Báez is emerging as a real threat.

He’s shown his power in big league games and on the back fields. If his bat-to-ball skills hold up, he’s got the tools to be special.”

Despite a tense ninth inning where Yhoiker Fajardo allowed three runs, Isringhausen praised the 19-year-old right-hander. Acquired from the Red Sox in the Willson Contreras trade, Fajardo ranks as the Cardinals' No. 13 prospect. He dominated in his initial two innings, displaying maturity beyond his years.

“He pitches like a seasoned veteran,” Isringhausen noted. “He was an excellent acquisition.

Trading big names is tough, but the return has been promising. Our system jumped from 19th to fourth according to MLB Pipeline, and Fajardo is a big part of that.

He’s incredibly polished for his age.”

With performances like these, the Cardinals' future looks bright, as their young prospects continue to make their mark.
