Flyers Linked to Zegras as Contract Talks Remain on Hold

Contract talks and trade buzz define the latest moves for the Flyers and Blues as both teams navigate key roster decisions ahead of the deadline.

Trevor Zegras, Flyers Yet to Open Extension Talks - But Both Sides Want to Make It Work

The Philadelphia Flyers have already made a couple of key long-term commitments this season, with Travis Konecny and Christian Dvorak both locked up. But when it comes to Trevor Zegras - one of the team’s most dynamic young talents - contract talks haven’t started just yet.

Flyers GM Daniel Briere confirmed there’s been no formal discussion with Zegras, who’s set to become a restricted free agent this summer. But make no mistake: the Flyers want to keep him around.

“I certainly hope it helps,” Briere said, referring to the team’s recent success and the positive environment they’re building. “Trevor is another reason why we’ve taken a step.

So, we’ll see. We haven’t started discussing anything with Trevor but he’s restricted, so we have a little bit more, I guess, power on that front.

But we want to keep him here. It’s been working out.

Hopefully he keeps playing the way he has. He’s been impressive this year.”

That’s not just GM-speak - Zegras has been a driving force for the Flyers this season, showing off the creativity, edge, and playmaking that made him such a coveted young player. His ability to elevate the pace of the game and generate offense has helped Philadelphia take a noticeable step forward.

For his part, Zegras sounds open - even eager - to find common ground.

“I mean, I can only hope,” Zegras said when asked about the potential for a long-term deal. “Some of this contract stuff in the past has been tough.

Obviously, the last contract I went through was a little hairy. So I try not to put expectations on it, or anything like that.

If they want me here for a long time, I would love that.”

It’s a telling quote. Zegras isn’t hiding the fact that his last round of negotiations wasn’t smooth sailing, but he’s also not letting that cloud his outlook.

He wants to be in Philly. And if the Flyers are serious about continuing to build around their young core, locking up Zegras will be a major piece of the puzzle.

Blues Listening on Big Names as Trade Deadline Approaches

Meanwhile, in St. Louis, the Blues are signaling they’re open for business - and no name seems completely off the table.

Sources say GM Doug Armstrong has been actively fielding calls, and the list of players drawing interest includes some of the team’s biggest stars. Defenseman Colton Parayko and forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou have all been mentioned - though with full no-trade clauses, any deal would need their approval.

The asking price for those three? As expected, sky-high.

But the Blues’ potential trade pieces don’t stop there.

Veterans Brayden Schenn, Pius Suter, and Justin Faulk are also generating interest. All three are under contract through next season, and both Schenn and Faulk hold 15-team no-trade lists. That gives them some control, but not total veto power.

Schenn, in particular, is drawing attention from several teams looking to add leadership and scoring depth. The Canadiens, Devils, Maple Leafs, Hurricanes, and Capitals have all reportedly shown interest.

Faulk, a steady right-shot defenseman with playoff experience, has been linked to the Maple Leafs, Panthers, and Golden Knights - all contenders who could use a reliable presence on the blue line.

And don’t overlook the pending unrestricted free agents. Forwards Oskar Sundqvist and Mathieu Joseph could be on the move before the deadline, especially if the Blues commit to retooling their roster.

With the deadline inching closer, St. Louis is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing teams to watch. Whether they go full teardown or make targeted moves, Armstrong has options - and plenty of suitors.
