The St. Louis Blues will open training camp Sept. 17 at Centene Community Ice Center, but one of their top forward prospects won’t be there to start the push toward his first pro season.
The NHL and NHLPA announced Friday that Adam Jecho will be unavailable for an indefinite period while he receives care through the joint Player Assistance Program. He will rejoin the organization only after program administrators clear him for on-ice competition.
For the Blues, the timing shifts the focus away from lineup decisions and toward something much bigger than hockey. Jecho, a 20-year-old Czech power forward, had been expected in St. Louis as he prepared for camp.
The 6-foot-5, 201-pound winger has quietly become a notable name in the Blues’ prospect pool. St. Louis picked him 95th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, then had him sign a three-year entry-level deal in March 2025 after two productive years with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL.
Jecho’s move to North America paid off quickly. He posted 47 points in 54 games as a rookie with Edmonton, then followed that with 53 points in 56 games the next season. In the 2025-26 campaign, he wore an assistant captain’s letter and finished with 36 points in 47 games, helping the Oil Kings close the regular season strong before a first-round playoff exit.
He also put together a strong international showing. At the 2025 World Junior Championships, Jecho helped Czechia win bronze, scored the quarterfinal winner against Canada and finished with seven points in seven games. A hand injury kept him out of the 2026 tournament.
Scouts have long been drawn to his size, reach and puck skills, traits that have given him a real chance to develop into a middle-six NHL forward. The next step, as his game continues to mature, will be sharpening the skating and the consistency that will help him keep moving up the ladder.
For now, though, that climb pauses. The Player Assistance Program remains a confidential league resource for mental health, substance abuse and other personal challenges, and Jecho’s situation will stay private. When he’s ready to return, the Blues will sort out whether his path leads first to the AHL or the ECHL.
Until then, the priority is clear: get healthy, get the care he needs, and let the rest wait.
