The St. Louis Blues have put defenseman Marc-Andre Gaudet on waivers, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on Saturday afternoon.
Gaudet is 22 and carries an $877,500 NHL cap hit through the end of the 2026-27 season. The left-shot blueliner spent all of 2025-26 with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, where he put up five goals and 20 points in 53 games. He also chipped in one goal and four points over 11 playoff games.
St. Louis picked Gaudet in the fifth round, 152nd overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Moncton, N.B. native is in the final year of his entry-level contract and is set up to become a restricted free agent next summer.
Before turning pro, Gaudet played junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Chicoutimi Sagueneens, and Sherbrooke Phoenix. He signed his entry-level deal with the Blues in December 2022, during his last junior season.
Gaudet finished his QMJHL run with 15 goals and 61 points in 66 games between Chicoutimi and Sherbrooke in 2022-23, then added nine points in 14 playoff games with the Phoenix. From there, he moved to the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears in 2023-24 and posted 26 points in 55 games as a rookie pro, while also getting into his first eight games with Springfield.
He split 2024-25 between Springfield and the ECHL’s Florida Everblades before locking down a regular role with the Thunderbirds in 2025-26. Among Springfield defensemen, he finished second in scoring behind Calle Rosen.
Hours before the waiver move, Gaudet was on the ice as an extra defenseman in Blues training camp with the “non-game group” - the players not scheduled to play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Dallas Stars at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
It’s still unclear whether St. Louis will make additional cuts from its camp roster soon.
