The St. Louis Blues are seeing some significant changes in their front office lineup.
Pro scout and AHL GM Kevin Maxwell, along with VP of hockey operations Peter Chiarelli, are departing to explore new opportunities. According to insider Darren Dreger, Maxwell is expected to return to the New York Rangers in a management capacity, while Chiarelli is in the running to become the next GM of the Nashville Predators.
Maxwell has been a key figure with the Blues since 2022, serving as both a pro scout and the GM of the Springfield Thunderbirds. His extensive experience with the Rangers, where he spent 14 seasons as director of professional scouting and a pro scout, makes his return to New York an intriguing development.
Chiarelli, who joined the Blues in 2019, initially served as a senior advisor before stepping into his role as VP of hockey operations. His tenure with the Edmonton Oilers as GM was a mixed bag, ending before the conclusion of his fourth season. However, his prior success with the Boston Bruins, including a Stanley Cup win in 2011, underscores his capabilities in NHL management.
With Doug Armstrong transitioning to the full-time president of hockey operations and Alexander Steen taking over as GM, the Blues were already bracing for changes. Now, with Maxwell and Chiarelli moving on, the team is poised for a substantial reshuffle in its executive ranks. These moves are part of a broader strategy as the Blues look to solidify their leadership and chart a new course for the future.
