South Carolina Stuns Fans With Offer to Former Kentucky QB Commitment

South Carolina shakes up its 2027 recruiting strategy by pursuing former Kentucky QB commit DJ Hunter.

South Carolina is making strategic moves to bolster its 2027 quarterback lineup, extending an offer to DJ Hunter, a former Kentucky commit. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, Hunter hails from Buford High School and recently reopened his recruitment after parting ways with the Wildcats, a commitment he initially made back in April 2025.

Hunter's talent is well-recognized, with the 247Sports Composite ranking him as the 605th overall player nationally and the 41st quarterback. Within Georgia, he's considered the 69th top prospect. The 247Sports rankings place him even higher among quarterbacks, at 38th.

The Gamecocks are actively scouting for 2027 talent, having also extended offers to quarterbacks like Jamison Roberts from Saraland, Alabama, and Jerry Meyer III from Waxahachie, Texas. Meyer, who previously committed to TCU during Kendal Briles' tenure as offensive coordinator, is another intriguing prospect. Briles has also re-offered Jayce Johnson, a Texas A&M commit and the fourth-ranked quarterback in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite.

South Carolina's recruitment strategy is clearly focused on building a robust quarterback roster, showcasing their commitment to future success on the field.
