South Carolina Just Landed A Defensive Line Win Auburn Wont Like

In a major recruiting coup, South Carolina edges out Auburn to land highly-touted defensive tackle Nate Kamba, offering a promising boost to their future defensive line.

South Carolina kept pressing for Nate Kamba, and the Gamecocks finally landed the payoff on Sunday.

The 4-star defensive tackle from Charlotte announced his commitment to South Carolina, reversing an Auburn pledge he made in June, roughly a week after his official visit to Columbia. Kamba attends Corvian Community High School, and South Carolina got the flip less than 24 hours after he was back in town for the 27-24 win over Tennessee.

Kamba is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 33 defensive lineman in the 2027 class. He also checks in as the No. 9 prospect from North Carolina overall, regardless of position.

Production has been there, too. In the first 30 games of his high school career, Kamba posted 128 tackles, with 50 for loss and 14 sacks.

His commitment gives South Carolina a second defensive tackle from North Carolina in the class. John Archer of Seventy First-Fayetteville pledged in April and is ranked as the No. 19 defensive lineman in the country.

The Gamecocks were in early on Kamba, offering him in January of his sophomore year. Defensive tackles coach Travian Robertson and former defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas were part of the initial push, and Robertson has stayed connected with Kamba throughout the process.

"(Robertson's) a real guy, great dude. A family man," Kamba told Gamecock247, after his official visit in June.

"Like the fact that everybody in that staff can tell you, 'That's a good dude. We love him.'

His kids love him, his wife loves him, the players love him, everything like that. And the fact that some players that will go to another school, and be like, 'Hey, you're right, this was the one for me.'

They come back and just tell how good of a guy he is.

"We went on the boat with them. We ate together, with each other today, stuff like that.

He is a great, wonderful guy. He'll take good care of you and make sure I'm straight."

Kamba was also selected in September to represent North Carolina in the 2026 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

South Carolina Now Faces A Costly Williams-Brice Decision

The celebration after South Carolinas upset win over No. 11 Tennessee came with a hefty price tag at Williams-Brice Stadium. Roughly 30,000 fans rushed the field, and the surge left the Ligustrum hedges behind the north end zone badly damaged, turning a memorable night into a maintenance problem for the athletic department.

Head groundskeeper Tim Flanagan said the damage was extensive, and replacing the hedges could cost a substantial amount, with repair decisions still pending. It was the third field storm of Shane Beamers tenure, following similar scenes in 2022 and 2024, another reminder that the Gamecocks biggest emotional wins can leave a lasting mark beyond the scoreboard. South Carolinas Next SEC Test Just Got A Lot More Real

South Carolinas next SEC home test now has a firmer feel to it, with Texas A&M set to visit on Nov. 7 for a 3 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. Texas A&M will arrive with a week off in hand, while South Carolina will be coming through a stretch that already includes recent results and the Oklahoma game on deck. South Carolinas Newest Commit Could Answer A Big Frontcourt Need

South Carolina added another piece to its recruiting class with the commitment of Johnson, a promising interior prospect who could eventually help address a need in the frontcourt. She joins point guards Jezelle Banks and Taylor Brown as the third player in the class, giving the Gamecocks another young building block as they look ahead to future roster construction.

Johnson brings a productive high school rsum from Biloxi High School, where she averaged 14.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game as a junior. She has already cleared 1,000 career points and rebounds, and while she may need time to adjust to the college game, her size and physical tools give South Carolina something to work with in the paint.
