South Carolina finally broke through in SEC play, and Shane Beamer made sure nobody missed the size of the moment.
The Gamecocks went into Gainesville and knocked off No. 16 Florida 38-19 on Saturday afternoon, picking up their first conference win of the season and improving to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in SEC play. It was South Carolina’s first win in Gainesville since 2014, and its first ranked win since beating Clemson in 2024.
Beamer called it a victory that belonged to the entire program.
“I think our play and our response this week speaks for itself,” Beamer said. “...
I’m really happy for every players in our program, every person associated with our program. That is a program win.
For all the negativity out there this week, that is a program win.”
South Carolina’s performance backed that up. The offense piled up 393 yards, and the defense forced three turnovers in a road game that Beamer described as one of the toughest settings in the sport.
“Our whole messaging this week was, we needed to get better as a team,” Beamer said. “We got better as a team from Alabama to Kentucky.
The outcome on the scoreboard did not reflect that, I understand that. [But] we got better from Alabama to Kentucky.
We really made strides.”
Beamer also pointed to the circumstances around the win. South Carolina was missing four starters, and then lost Judge Collier in the first half, leaving the Gamecocks short-handed before still delivering one of their sharpest outings of the season.
“It’s a hard place to play,” Beamer said. “...
This is one of the great environments in all of college football. They’ve got a good football team, but for us to come down here missing four starters - make sure you guys write that - we’re down four starters today that aren’t on this trip, and then we lose Judge Collier in the first half, so we were down there.
But the way they played on defense, the way he played on offense, it’s freaking awesome. They deserve it.”
LaNorris Sellers was at the center of it all. The South Carolina quarterback completed 23 of 35 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns, while also running for 20 yards and another score.
Beamer said he had pushed Sellers in practice leading into last week’s Kentucky game, splitting his first-team reps “75% to 25%” with backup Cutter Woods.
“I thought he was a freaking dude today,” Beamer said. “Some of the throws he threw in the tight windows, running the ball, just poise, confident.
I don’t think anything changed. I think he just continues to trust himself and do what we’re asking him to do, and go make plays.”

South Carolina Just Delivered The Response Shane Beamer Needed Most
South Carolina walked into Gainesville needing something sturdier than a moral victory, and it got exactly that. The Gamecocks beat No. 16 Florida 38-19 to snap an eight-game SEC losing streak, a result that felt bigger than the standings because of the way it unfolded. South Carolina forced multiple takeaways, settled in after the break and got a sharp performance from quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who threw four touchdown passes.
For Shane Beamer, it was the kind of response that changes the conversation around a program, even if only for a week. Beamer celebrated the win as a significant one for South Carolina, and the challenge now is making sure this looks like a turning point rather than a one-off breakthrough. The Gamecocks finally showed they could travel, take punches and still control the game against a ranked opponent, which is the part they have to build on from here. [Read more 🡒]
LaNorris Sellers Showed Gamecocks Fans A Receiver Problem They Know Too Well
South Carolinas passing game had another tense sideline moment against Florida, when LaNorris Sellers and Mazeo Bennett were seen in a heated exchange after an incompletion. It was the second time this season the quarterback and receiver have had that kind of sideline disagreement, a reminder that the Gamecocks are still working through the kind of offensive growing pains that can show up when timing, trust and execution are all being tested in real time.
Bennett and Sellers did answer back in the best way possible later in the game, linking up on a touchdown pass and appearing to move past the earlier frustration. Even so, the scene fit a broader concern South Carolina fans know too well: when the offense gets choppy, the tension between quarterback and wideout is never far behind, and the Gamecocks still have to prove those moments can be handled without spilling over. South Carolina Powers Just Shook Up The Week 7 Picture
Week 7 in South Carolina high school football delivered the kind of shake-up that reshapes the conversation from top to bottom. Northwestern handed Dorman its first loss of the season, Boiling Springs fought back from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat Rock Hill in overtime, and South Pointe rallied from behind to get past Indian Land, giving the week a little bit of everything for teams trying to separate themselves in a crowded field.
Berkeley also snapped Carolina Forests region winning streak, while Dutch Fork kept rolling by extending its run to 17 straight games. Taken together, the results showed just how little margin there is as the season tightens, with contenders taking hits, comeback wins piling up, and the Week 7 picture looking a lot different than it did just a few days earlier.
