Malone's Alarming Strikeout Sparks UNC Concern

UConn's basketball program scores big as five-star recruit Jordan Page chooses the Huskies for the 2027 season, boosting their already impressive recruitment efforts.

UConn has kept its foot on the gas in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and the latest win is a big one. Five-star wing Jordan Page announced Sunday that he is committing to the Huskies, giving Dan Hurley another elite building block for a class that is already starting to stack up.

Page comes in as a 6-foot-5, 210-pound wing out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., though he originally hails from North Carolina. 247Sports has him slotted No. 10 overall in the class and as the third-best player at his position, which tells you plenty about the level of prospect UConn just landed.

He’s now the second five-star to pledge to the Huskies in this cycle, joining combo guard NaVorro Bowman Jr., who announced last month.

Page’s recruitment had plenty of heavyweight interest before he settled on Storrs. He took official visits to North Carolina and UConn in September, and the Tar Heels were viewed as the early favorite. But UConn clearly made a strong impression on the gifted athlete during that trip, enough to swing the decision Hurley’s way.

CBS Sports scouting director Adam Finkelstein pointed to Page’s length and two-way impact as the traits that jump off the page. In his summer evaluation, Finkelstein wrote: "The key for Page is playing within the flow offensively," Finkelstein wrote in his summer evaluation of the prospect.

"He's more of a natural connector than offensive alpha. He doesn't have much wiggle off the dribble, needs to improve his right hand, isn't yet a secondary handler or overly polished at using ball screens and could better leverage his physical tools in the lane.

"His shooting mechanics suffer, particularly with his footwork, when he starts settling for rushed or contested shots. In short, he projects as someone who should be capable of keeping the dominos falling once they start but is not yet a primary playmaker."

Finkelstein also sees a strong stylistic match between Page and what Hurley wants at UConn. "Page may be the best natural fit for what UConn emphasizes on a daily basis," Finkelstein wrote a 247Sports scout and fit article.

"First, he checks all of the necessary boxes from a competitive character standpoint. The bar is high at UConn, in terms of what Hurley expects on a day-to-day basis, and Jordan is going to be able to meet that standard with the way he goes about his work.

"Secondly, he's a team-first player whose game is best suited when he is surrounded by other good players. He's not someone who is going to need a requisite number of shots or offensive volume, because he understands how to impact winning both with and without the basketball."

South Carolina Just Created A New QB Question Clemson Fans Will Notice

Cutter Woods took the first snap at quarterback against Kentucky as the backup to LaNorris Sellers, a move that coach Shane Beamer said was planned in advance. The decision fit neatly with Beamers repeated message about competition and accountability, even if it also put a fresh spotlight on how South Carolina is handling the position behind its established starter.

Woods is now officially credited with a loss as a starting quarterback, but the larger issue is still the same one facing the Gamecocks going forward: Sellers remains the guy at the top of the depth chart. For South Carolina, the moment was less about a changing of the guard than a reminder that the quarterback room is being managed with purpose, and Clemson fans will at least notice the wrinkle when these teams start getting compared again. South Carolina May Be Near A Shane Beamer Conversation Nobody Wanted

South Carolinas uneasy start has put Shane Beamer back under the kind of spotlight no coach wants this early in a season. He is under contract through 2030, but a 2-3 start and a recent overtime loss have sharpened the scrutiny around a program that expected more stability by now. The discussion has moved beyond the standings and into the uncomfortable territory of contracts, buyout language, and what it would mean if the Gamecocks had to make a change.

If South Carolina were to reach that point, the list of names already circulating shows how quickly a search could take shape. Jake Dickert, Brent Vigen, Shannon Dawson, and Tim Polasek are among the coaches being mentioned, each bringing a different resume and a different path to the job through current roles and recent success. For now, it remains a conversation the program did not want to have, but one the results have made hard to avoid. [Read more 🡒]

South Carolina May Have To Plan Without Ethan Sanchez After All

South Carolinas kicking picture may be getting clearer in one way and murkier in another. Shane Beamer said this week that Ethan Sanchez is not expected to get the extra year he has been seeking, a development that matters because the veteran kicker has not appeared in a game since arriving before the 2026 season and has been trying to win eligibility through legal channels after recent NCAA rule changes.

Even with the uncertainty hanging over him, Sanchez is still around the program and working with the team. He has been practicing and, by Beamers account, has been a positive presence in the locker room, but the Gamecocks may need to keep planning as if they will have to move forward without him.
