LaNorris Sellers and Mazeo Bennett had another sideline flare-up Saturday, and this one played out early in South Carolina’s game against Florida.
The frustration surfaced in the first quarter after Sellers missed Bennett on a third-and-5 from the Florida 30. The incompletion was followed by a missed field goal on the next snap, and the tension carried to the sideline as cameras caught Sellers in an exchange with Gamecocks receivers coach Mike Furrey before he was seen yelling at Bennett as he walked by.
Sellers pointed at Bennett, and Bennett made a move toward him before teammate Nyck Harbor stepped in to hold him back.
It was the second time this season the two were seen arguing on camera. The earlier incident came against Towson State after a missed chance during that game.
“Just two passionate players that want to get it right,” Sellers said after the Towson game. “We missed on it last week and it’s frustrating we keep missing on it.
But we’ve just got to get it right. We just talked about it, got it all out.
We’re good now, though.”
The on-field response Saturday came quickly. Sellers found Harbor for a 15-yard touchdown on South Carolina’s next drive, helping keep the game tied 7-7 after the first quarter.
Later, just before halftime, Sellers and Bennett connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass that put South Carolina ahead 17-10. The two celebrated together after the score.
South Carolina’s receivers have been a talking point all season, with Gamecock pass catchers leading the country with 19 dropped passes.

Shane Beamer Pressure Puts South Carolina's Locker Room To The Test
South Carolinas recent slide has turned up the heat on Shane Beamer, with three straight losses and a pair of blown leads at home feeding the growing frustration around the program. The results have invited plenty of criticism, but inside the locker room, several players made it clear they are not running from the head coach or the staff as the Gamecocks try to steady themselves.
During a media session, those players stressed their support for Beamer and his coaches while focusing on what comes next. The message from within the team was less about explaining the struggles and more about sticking together, improving, and finding a way through a rough stretch that has tested both the record and the resolve of the group. South Carolina Just Delivered The Response Shane Beamer Needed Most
South Carolina walked into Gainesville carrying the weight of an eight-game SEC losing streak and walked out with the kind of result Shane Beamer had been chasing. The Gamecocks beat No. 16 Florida 38-19, a win built on takeaways, a sharper second half and a performance that finally looked like a team turning frustration into something useful.
LaNorris Sellers was at the center of it, throwing four touchdown passes as South Carolina pulled away. For Beamer, the celebration was about more than one upset on the road. It was the kind of program win that can change the tone around a season, especially after a stretch where answers were hard to find. [Read more 🡒]
South Carolina Powers Just Shook Up The Week 7 Picture
Week 7 of South Carolina high school football delivered a little of everything, and the ripple effects were easy to spot across the state. Northwestern handed Dorman its first loss of the season, while Boiling Springs erased a fourth-quarter deficit to get past Rock Hill in overtime and South Pointe rallied from behind to beat Indian Land. Elsewhere, Berkeley ended Carolina Forests region winning streak, and Dutch Fork kept rolling with its winning streak up to 17 games.
For a weekend that already carried plenty of weight, the biggest takeaway was how quickly the picture can change once the calendar flips deeper into district play. Dorman suddenly has company in the loss column, more teams are learning how thin the margin can be in late-game situations, and programs like Dutch Fork keep reinforcing why they remain part of the states standard.
