LaNorris Sellers Just Gave South Carolina Fans Reason To Believe Again

On the 16th anniversary of a historic victory, LaNorris Sellers propels South Carolina to a stirring triumph over the Florida Gators, providing a fresh sense of hope for a season turnaround.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - South Carolina walked into Saturday carrying a lot of baggage and walked out looking like a team that had finally shaken it off.

LaNorris Sellers was the engine. The Gamecocks’ receivers were sharp.

The defense came up with the takeaways it had been chasing for weeks. And on the 16th anniversary of South Carolina’s 2010 SEC East-clinching win at Florida, the No.

16 Gamecocks went back to the same field and beat the No. 16 Gators 38-19.

It was the kind of result USC badly needed after three straight losses, two double-digit leads blown in that stretch and a growing cloud around Shane Beamer’s team. Instead, South Carolina improved to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC, beat a Top 25 opponent for the first time since 2024 and headed into its bye week with real momentum.

Beamer had talked all week about belief and response, even comparing the moment to the Gamecocks’ six-game closing run two years ago. On Saturday, the talk finally matched the performance.

Sellers was at the center of it. After an uneven start and a sideline exchange with Mazeo Bennett following a missed connection on South Carolina’s third drive, the quarterback settled in and tore apart Florida’s secondary.

The mistakes that had haunted USC were gone. The “here we go again” feel was gone too.

What replaced it was clean, efficient offense. Sellers finished 25 of 35 for 279 yards, four touchdowns and no turnovers, while adding 20 rushing yards.

South Carolina did not need much from the ground game, finishing with 117 rushing yards. Florida, despite its reputation there with Jadan Baugh leading the way, managed just 120.

The Gamecocks’ third-quarter drought against SEC teams finally ended in emphatic fashion. After a 45-minute lightning delay at halftime, Florida opened the second half with a field goal. South Carolina answered immediately.

Sellers stood in and hit Donovan Murph on a post for a touchdown, with Murph turning toward the fans, throwing up a short Gator-chomp and putting a finger to his lips. After a Florida punt, Sellers nearly scored himself on a scramble that ended with him ruled down at the half-inch line, then punched it in on a Tush Push. Later, he found Lex Cyrus wide open in the end zone after a third-and-1 shot down the sideline fell incomplete.

Cyrus’ production stood out in its own right. He entered the game with just three catches for 53 yards all season after posting those numbers against Kent State, and he finished Saturday with two receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown.

The win also came with South Carolina shorthanded. Starting nickel Quay’Sheed Scott was out after getting banged up last week and will undergo further testing next week, Beamer said. Starting center Carter Miller, starting defensive tackle Gabe Brownlow-Dindy and edge Julian Walker were also unavailable.

Nolan Hay moved to center for Miller, Ebubedike Nnabugwu slid into Hay’s spot at left guard, Noah Clark replaced Brownlow-Dindy and Gerald Kilgore filled Scott’s role.

Dylan Stewart, back from suspension, started and made a major impact. He was the first player off the bus, walked in behind Beamer and later delivered a sack and a forced fumble. He also helped fuel a defense that had been talking for three weeks about needing turnovers, one of the program’s calling cards over the last five years.

It paid off. Vicari Swain came up with an interception late in the second quarter, and Stewart stripped Aaron Philo in the fourth quarter before Shawn Murphy recovered the ball. South Carolina also forced a turnover on downs after Florida got a deep shot and then couldn’t convert on third-and-1.

Athletic director Jeremiah Donati had sounded confident before kickoff, saying, “This team is poised for a breakout,” and adding, “Hopefully we see it here today."

He did.

Shane Beamer Pressure Puts South Carolina's Locker Room To The Test

South Carolinas recent slide has turned up the heat on Shane Beamer, with three straight losses and a pair of blown leads at home feeding the growing frustration around the program. The results have invited plenty of criticism, but inside the locker room, several players made it clear they are not running from the head coach or the staff as the Gamecocks try to steady themselves.

During a media session, those players stressed their support for Beamer and his coaches while focusing on what comes next. The message from within the team was less about explaining the struggles and more about sticking together, improving, and finding a way through a rough stretch that has tested both the record and the resolve of the group. LaNorris Sellers Showed Gamecocks Fans A Receiver Problem They Know Too Well

South Carolinas passing game had another revealing moment against Florida, and it came on the sideline as much as it did between the lines. LaNorris Sellers and Mazeo Bennett were seen in a heated exchange after an incomplete pass, a flash of frustration that fit an offense still trying to find steadier footing in the games biggest moments.

It was also the second time this season the two had been involved in a sideline confrontation, which only adds to the sense that the Gamecocks are still working through some receiver-room issues in real time. Still, the night did not end there. Sellers and Bennett later hooked up for a touchdown and appeared to make amends, a small but notable reset for a partnership South Carolina needs working smoothly. LaNorris Sellers was at the center of it, throwing four touchdown passes as South Carolina pulled away. For Beamer, the celebration was about more than one upset on the road.
