LaNorris Sellers’ status became the biggest storyline of South Carolina’s matchup with Texas A&M after the Gamecocks quarterback left the game late in the second quarter with an apparent left ankle injury.
The play came when Aggie defensive lineman Sam M’Pemba, listed at 257 pounds, appeared to land on Sellers’ left ankle as the quarterback fumbled. Sellers immediately pointed to his left leg when trainers reached him, then limped off the field before being helped into the injury tent.
By halftime, Sellers had gone from the tent to the locker room. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer told the ESPN broadcast, “We’re concerned.
He’s got an ankle,” and added, “They’re taking an X-ray on it. I don’t know the results.”
Before leaving, Sellers had been sharp. He went 10 for 15 for 151 passing yards and a touchdown, helping the Gamecocks carry a 7-6 lead into halftime. Sophomore Cutter Woods is the backup quarterback.
Beamer said South Carolina had full belief in Woods if needed, but made clear the bigger problem was happening up front. “We’ve got a lot of confidence in Cutter Woods - total confidence in him,” Beamer told ESPN.
“The bigger issue is, we’re getting our butts kicked on the line of scrimmage. We’re not running the ball and they’re running the ball down our throats right now.”
There was a small positive sign as the second half approached. Sellers returned to the field for halftime warmups with the rest of South Carolina’s quarterbacks and threw a few passes, though he was moving gingerly. Texas A&M was set to start the second half on offense, so there was no immediate answer on whether Sellers would be back in the game right away.
Beamer later told ESPN that Sellers’ X-rays were negative, and the broadcast reported that Sellers “is going to try to give it a go” in the second half.

Dawn Staleys Clemson Visit Had A Personal Twist Gamecocks Fans Will Notice
Dawn Staley spent part of a busy basketball day in a very different arena, showing up at Clemson to watch her godson, Madden Collins, suit up for American University. The South Carolina womens coach was there while her own team practiced earlier in the day, and she made the trip in an American hoodie to take in a game that had a personal connection beyond the usual rivalry lines.
Collins made the visit worth Staleys time, leading American with 23 points even in a loss to Clemson. For Gamecocks fans, it was another reminder that Staleys basketball world stretches well beyond Columbia, and that her support for the people in it can show up in unexpected places. [Read more 🡒]
South Carolina Gets A Perfect Spot To Keep Rolling At Home
Texas A&M is walking into a difficult setup in Columbia, where the Aggies will face South Carolina on the Gamecocks homecoming weekend at Williams-Brice Stadium. It is the kind of spot that can magnify everything about a road team, especially one still searching for its first road win and coming off three straight away losses.
South Carolina, meanwhile, has earned the chance to enjoy the moment. The Gamecocks have won three straight and pushed themselves up to No. 21 in the College Football Playoff rankings, giving this home date a little more weight than the usual late-season crowd scene. With momentum on their side and the building likely to be lively, they have a chance to keep turning home field into something more than just a backdrop. [Read more 🡒]
Gamecocks Get An Early Test As Strong Start Meets A Tougher Challenge
South Carolinas second game of the 2026-27 season brings a different kind of early-season checkup to Colonial Life Arena, with Southeast Missouri State arriving after a 2-0 start of its own. The Gamecocks opened with a win over Stetson, and now they get a Redhawks team that has already handled Lipscomb and Webster, making this a more revealing early test than a typical nonconference follow-up.
For South Carolina, the matchup offers a chance to see how the first win holds up against a team that has already found some rhythm, while SEMO gets a shot at a Power Four road environment this early in the year. Broadcast details are part of the setup, but the bigger draw is the contrast in momentum, with both teams bringing recent success into a game that should offer a better read on where each stands right now.
