Gamecocks Stun With Visit From 5-Star DE Anthony Sweeney

Top recruit Anthony Sweeney's recent visit to South Carolina strengthens the Gamecocks' position in the race for the coveted 5-star defensive end.

Anthony Sweeney, a standout defensive end ranked No. 23 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports, is turning heads with his impressive skills. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 230 pounds, this young talent from Our Lady Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland, recently made a visit to the University of South Carolina, and it seems the Gamecocks left quite an impression.

Reflecting on his visit, Sweeney shared, "The SC visit went great. They definitely reminded me why I am so high on them."

His comments highlight the strong connection he feels with Coach Shane Beamer, who is renowned for being a players' coach. The entire coaching staff at South Carolina has done an admirable job of showcasing what makes their program special.

Sweeney is no stranger to the Gamecocks, having visited during the fall for their matchup against Vanderbilt. At that time, Sterling Lucas was leading the recruiting efforts, but since then, Deion Barnes has stepped in to take over those responsibilities. With a top-five ranking as an edge rusher nationally, Sweeney's recruitment is certainly one to watch as he continues to explore his options and weigh what each program has to offer.
