Clemson’s virtual roster for EA Sports College Football 27 is starting to take shape, and the early ratings paint a familiar picture: a defense that looks nasty, a quarterback race that feels unsettled, and enough speed on offense to make things interesting when the game drops July 9.
The top of the board belongs to two defensive standouts. Edge rusher Will Heldt and linebacker Sammy Brown are Clemson’s only players rated in the 90s, with both landing at 90 overall. Brown’s number stands out even more when you zoom out, since he checks in as the fourth-best linebacker in the entire game.
Behind them, the Tigers’ defense keeps stacking up. Ashton Hampton comes in at 86 overall in the secondary, while Vic Burley lands at 85 on the line. The picture gets even deeper with portal additions Corey Myrick at 86 overall at safety and Jerome Carter at 83, giving Clemson a back end that looks loaded in the game.
At quarterback, the ratings reflect the same kind of uncertainty Clemson fans are watching in real life. Sophomore Christopher Vizzina sits at 75 overall, a small dip from last year, and four-star freshman Tait Reynolds is right behind him at 74. That battle for QB1 should be one of the more closely watched spots on the roster.
The offense also gets a boost from pure speed. SMU transfer Chris Johnson Jr. brings an 83 overall and a 96 speed rating, while Penn State transfer Elliot Washington comes in at 82 overall with 95 speed. True freshman wide receiver Naeem Burroughs adds another layer to that group at 82 overall.
For Clemson, the early virtual numbers say the same thing the real roster already suggests: plenty of talent, a defense with serious punch, and enough explosiveness to make this team dangerous in the game.

South Carolina usually feels settled at safety, but this summer the position has turned into one of the more watched battles in camp. Shane Beamer and defensive coordinator Clayton White are sorting through a group that lost key pieces and now features returning starters Peyton Williams and David Bucey alongside transfer Quaysheed Scott and freshman JZavien Currence, all trying to carve out roles before the season opens.
