Shane Beamer and defensive coordinator Clayton White are staying active on the recruiting trail, making their presence felt throughout North Carolina as they continue to build relationships with some of the top prospects in the 2027 class.
One of the key stops on their latest swing through the state was Millbrook High School in Raleigh, where they met with Rashad Streets - a name Gamecock fans will want to keep an eye on. Streets is a four-star defensive end and currently ranked No. 14 at his position nationally, according to 247Sports.
He’s also the No. 6 overall prospect in North Carolina and checks in at No. 102 in the country, regardless of position. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Streets already has the kind of frame and athletic profile that jumps off the tape.
South Carolina has been in the mix for a while. They extended an offer to Streets last January, and he’s made multiple trips to Columbia since then. That includes a spring practice visit and a game day experience at Williams-Brice Stadium this past fall when the Gamecocks hosted Alabama - a marquee matchup that gave recruits a taste of SEC football in full force.
Streets has also been in regular contact with new defensive ends coach Deion Barnes, who joined the staff just before Christmas. While Barnes formally reached out on Christmas Day, the relationship between the two has been developing over the past year. That kind of continuity matters in recruiting, especially for a player of Streets’ caliber, and it’s clear South Carolina is making him a priority.
“I will be visiting in March to see a practice and talk with the staff,” Streets said earlier this week. That visit could be pivotal as the Gamecocks look to solidify their standing in what’s shaping up to be a competitive recruitment.
Beamer hasn’t limited his attention to just one prospect, either. He’s been busy throughout the Tar Heel State, checking in on other top 2027 talents.
That includes four-star linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield out of Lincolnton and three-star linebacker Aroson Randle Jr. from Garner. He also made a stop at Providence Day School in Charlotte, where three-star safety Robert Geathers III is drawing attention.
This kind of groundwork in North Carolina is part of a broader strategy for Beamer and his staff - build relationships early, stay consistent, and make sure top regional talent knows South Carolina is serious about keeping them close to home. The 2027 class is still a ways off from signing day, but the Gamecocks are putting themselves in strong position by showing up early and often.
