Von Miller keeps leaving breadcrumbs, and the latest one points straight at Dallas.
On Wednesday, the veteran edge rusher posted a photo of himself wearing a No. 24 Cowboys jersey, paired with a “Shhh” emoji.
It was the kind of move that gets attention fast, especially coming just two days after Miller told R.J. Ochoa of SB Nation that “it would be great to be a Dallas Cowboy.”
Miller’s interest in the Cowboys isn’t exactly a mystery. He grew up in Dallas, and he laid out the appeal in plain terms.
“I grew up here in Dallas,” Miller said. “I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys.
If I played for the Dallas Cowboys this year, I [would] only have to drive 20 minutes to work. This would be the first time that my mom and dad don’t have to fly to every single game.
My mom has been to every single game that I’ve ever played in, and she’ll be able to drive to all the home games, and you know I got so many family members here. My kids are here.
My family is here; [my] girlfriend is here. Everybody’s here.
It’d just be easy to work it out, so you never really know.
“You know we talked about that magnetic field in College Station [when he played at Texas A&M]. Maybe the magnetic field here in Dallas will get me there. So I would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and it’d be amazing.”
The Cowboys are now the latest team tied to Miller as he looks for a new landing spot. He has already said he’d love to return to the Broncos, and he has also talked about re-signing with the Commanders.
Washington was the team he chose on July 16, almost exactly a year after he said he regretted picking them over the Seahawks. The Commanders had played in the NFC Championship Game a season earlier, while the Seahawks had won the Super Bowl.
Miller’s résumé still carries plenty of weight. He won a Super Bowl with the Broncos and was named MVP of that game, then added another title with the Rams.
In 14 NFL seasons with the Broncos, Rams, Bills and Commanders, he has 138.5 sacks. Last season, he had nine sacks while playing 37 percent of the defensive snaps, his highest sack total since 2021.
Dallas is also close to home for Miller, with the Cowboys playing 24 miles from his hometown of DeSoto. And for a player who has spent much of his career moving from one stop to the next, that kind of fit clearly has his attention.
