Seahawks Suddenly Have A Real Concern With Jaxon Smith-Njigba

As the Seahawks gear up for a critical Week 6 showdown against the Broncos, star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba's status hangs in the balance after appearing on the injury report with an ankle issue.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba showed up on the Seahawks’ injury report Monday, listed as limited with an ankle issue after hurting himself in Sunday’s 32-29 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Seattle did not hold a practice, so the report was only an estimate of what players would have done in a full session. It was the first of three injury reports the Seahawks must release before Thursday night’s Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos.

Smith-Njigba finished the 49ers game with five catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, but he also dropped a deep third-down pass on Seattle’s final drive. The ankle injury is the first time he has appeared on the injury report this season, outside of rest days. He still leads the NFL with 583 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches.

The Seahawks had two players listed as non-participants: linebacker Drake Thomas, who is dealing with an ankle injury, and special teams contributor Chazz Surratt, who is nursing a calf issue. Thomas was injured late in the first half on Sunday, went in as questionable, and then returned after halftime. Surratt has missed the past two games.

A group of notable names were limited, including three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Leonard Williams, running back Zach Charbonnet, right guard Beau Stephens and backup quarterback Drew Lock. Williams injured his ankle in Week 4, but still played 44 of 60 defensive snaps against San Francisco.

Head coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that Charbonnet is still unlikely to make his season debut Thursday night. The running back has been working back from February surgery to repair a torn ACL and returned to practice on Oct. 1 for the first time since the operation.

Since then, he has been limited on all six practice reports. He was eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list for Sunday’s NFC West matchup, but Macdonald ruled him out last week.

Seattle has until Oct. 22 to activate Charbonnet to the 53-man roster. If not, he has to stay on the PUP list for the rest of the season.

The Seahawks play Denver on Thursday night and then face the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 25.

“We have to have consensus from all parties that he’s ready to go - that he’s the most confident and he’s had enough exposure to go play an NFL game,” Macdonald said Monday. “So those are the variables at play here.

“And one area of that equation, can that adjust as we go? Yeah. But we’re trying to do right by the process right now.”

Seattle’s report also listed running back George Holani and wide receiver Irvin Charles as limited, with Holani dealing with ribs and knee issues and Charles coming back from a knee injury.

Seahawks Fans Are Still Arguing Over The Call That Ended It

A Week 5 loss can linger, but this one has a way of sticking in the mind because of how it ended. The San Francisco 49ers edged the Seahawks 32-29 in a game that stayed tense deep into the fourth quarter, then turned on a controversial fourth-and-10 ruling when officials marked Cooper Kupp short of the first down after he went out of bounds, and the call stood after review.

For Seattle, the debate is about more than one spot on the field. The ruling shut the door on a late comeback and left the Seahawks with a frustrating finish in a game they had kept within reach, while San Francisco kept rolling to a fifth straight win to open the season. Even now, the conversation around the call is still louder than the final score. [Read more 🡒]

Tom Bradys Seahawks Call Is Going To Divide Fans

Tom Bradys presence on Foxs Seahawks-49ers broadcast was always going to draw attention, but his read on one particular sequence in Sundays game is likely to linger with Seattle fans. In his third year as the networks lead NFL analyst, Brady said Sam Darnold was acting after taking a hit from Dre Greenlaw, a comment that came in the middle of a game already packed with emotion and physical play.

The broader scene only added to the debate. Greenlaw was later ejected for headbutting a helmetless player and flagged for a late hit on Darnold, while Brady also spent time breaking down other plays as the matchup unfolded. For Seahawks viewers, the call is the kind of broadcast moment that can color how a game is remembered, especially when the analyst in the booth is a name as big as Bradys. [Read more 🡒]

Seahawks Suddenly Have A Riq Woolen Decision Worth Watching

Riq Woolens name is back in the conversation around Seattle, and this time the fit is easy to see. The Seahawks need help at cornerback, and Woolen, now in his first season with the Eagles on a one-year deal, remains a familiar option for a defense that could use more stability on the back end. Even with his uneven play this year, the idea of a reunion is getting attention because Seattle knows both the player and the role he could fill.

Philadelphias willingness to keep moving pieces has only added to the speculation, especially after dealing Cam Jurgens. Any pursuit of Woolen would likely come down to how much draft capital Seattle is willing to spend, which makes this more than a simple nostalgia play. The Seahawks have cornerback issues of their own, and if they decide Woolen is worth bringing back, the price and timing will be the part worth watching. [Read more 🡒]
