Drew Lock didn’t just help Seattle finish off a 13-10 win on Sunday - he also became the center of attention after the final whistle.
Cameras caught Lock in the postgame handshake line after Drake Maye had already headed toward the locker room following three fourth-quarter interceptions. In the widely shared clip, Lock appears to be looking for Maye, realizes he’s gone, then takes off his helmet, says something, and turns as he daps up a Patriots player. The audio picked up Lock saying, “B-tch a-”.
The moment came after a night that wasn’t supposed to belong to Lock at all. He entered only because Sam Darnold suffered a frightening hip injury in the first half.
The injury happened when New England defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones tackled Darnold from behind, sending him hard into the turf. Darnold’s right leg took a heavy, awkward hit as his hip twisted underneath him, and although he got to his feet and walked off, he went straight to the locker room and did not return.
Once Lock was forced into action, the Seahawks offense sputtered for most of the first half. Then he finally found a groove with a 45-yard touchdown strike to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, a play that tied the game at 10-10 and swung the momentum Seattle’s way.
Lock finished 16 of 22 for 187 yards and that one touchdown, and his relief performance helped deliver the comeback win.
As for Darnold, he had an MRI on his right hip Monday morning. The scan ruled out any severe bone fractures or breaks, but he still isn’t fully out of the woods. If he’s sidelined, Lock would be in line for more playing time.
