In his debut season as the Seattle Seahawks' go-to receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba has shown he's a force to be reckoned with in the NFL. His breakout performance in his third year has certainly caught the league's attention, and now the Seahawks face the pressure of his upcoming contract extension. However, Smith-Njigba seems unfazed by the looming negotiations.
The Seahawks have until May 1 to decide on Smith-Njigba's fifth-year option, a move that's widely anticipated. This would set the stage for him to negotiate an extension in the 2027 offseason.
After topping the NFL in receiving yards in 2025, Smith-Njigba remains calm about the extension talks. He knows he's on track to potentially become the league's highest-paid receiver.
"I'm not too pressed right now to get it done," Smith-Njigba shared with Jonah Javad of WFAA. "I know my time is coming, and when we get it done, it's gonna be a great deal.
God's timing is perfect timing. Whenever that may come, we'll be ready for it.
I think I deserve to be the highest-paid in my position. Just what I give to the game and the community, I give it my all, and I think that's worth a lot more.

But I would play this game for free; I love this game so much. I'm learning to be a businessman."
Currently, Ja'Marr Chase holds the title of the NFL's highest-paid receiver, raking in over $40 million in 2025. The Cincinnati Bengals awarded Chase this hefty contract after a tough negotiation period early in the 2025 offseason.
Smith-Njigba's impressive 1,793 receiving yards in the 2025 regular season topped the league, surpassing Puka Nacua, who finished second with 1,715 yards. This achievement highlights Smith-Njigba's evolution into one of the game's elite playmakers, setting the stage for what could be a record-breaking contract in the near future.
