Seahawks Send A Clear Leadership Message Before Bears Showdown

As the Seattle Seahawks prepare for a Monday night showdown against the Chicago Bears, this week's chosen captains reflect the team's dynamic approach to leadership.

The Seahawks are sticking with a familiar pattern for Monday night’s matchup with the Bears: rotating captains, with a couple of names showing up again.

Seattle announced its three captains for Week 8 against Chicago, and the group includes quarterback Sam Darnold, safety Julian Love and safety Rodney Thomas II. For the Seahawks, captaincy isn’t a season-long title. It changes week to week, and this latest list shows the team leaning on some repeat leadership as the season moves along.

That matters as Seattle heads into “Monday Night Football” at 4-3, coming off a convincing 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Seahawks are also looking to get more out of the ground game after adding left guard Quenton Nelson and getting running back Zach Charbonnet back in the mix.

Love is no stranger to the role. He was also a captain in Week 2, while Darnold previously wore the captain tag in Week 1. Rodney Thomas II is a new addition to the weekly group.

Here’s how Seattle’s captain rotation has looked so far this season:

Week 7: DE DeMarcus Lawrence, LS Chris Stoll, C Jalen Sundell

Week 6: WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DT Byron Murphy II, FB Brady Russell

Week 5: DT Jarran Reed, LT Charles Cross, TE Eric Saubert, WR Rashid Shaheed

Week 4: CB Nehemiah Pritchett, LB Uchenna Nwosu, DE Mike Morris, WR Cooper Kupp

Week 3: TE AJ Barner, LB Patrick O'Connell, CB Devon Witherspoon

Week 2: S Julian Love, C Jalen Sundell, P Michael Dickson, LB Drake Thomas

Week 1: QB Sam Darnold, LB Ernest Jones IV, FB Brady Russell, DT Leonard Williams

Seahawks Backfield Just Got Much More Interesting Before Monday Night

The Seahawks backfield is about to get a lot more crowded, and the timing could not be better for a team heading into Monday Night Football against the Bears. Zach Charbonnet is expected to make his 2026 season debut after working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in last seasons playoffs, a recovery that included surgery and a lengthy rehab process.

Charbonnet and Jadarian Price both carry no injury designation, which gives Seattle a healthier running back room than it has had in a while. For a team trying to sort out roles and rhythm early in the season, getting Charbonnet back on the field adds another layer to an offense that could use the boost, even if the full picture of how the carries will be split is still coming into focus. Seahawks Draft Focus Is Narrowing Around One Tough Roster Choice

As the Seahawks turn toward the second half of the season, the front office is already being forced to think ahead to April and the kind of roster decisions that can shape the next phase of the team. One mock draft from contributor Tim Crean points Seattle toward Rutgers wide receiver KJ Duff as a possible first-round answer, a move that would give the offense another piece alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba and keep the passing game stocked with young talent.

The harder question may be on the other side of the ball, where Seattle is staring at the need to replace DeMarcus Lawrence if his expected retirement becomes official. Finding another pass rusher is never simple, and it adds another layer to a draft class that could be defined by how the Seahawks balance immediate help with longer-term planning. The wideout fit is intriguing, but the pass-rush hole may end up being the more pressing roster choice. [Read more 🡒]

Seahawks Face A Jadarian Price Decision Bigger Than Just Monday Night

With Quenton Nelson expected to make his Seahawks debut at left guard and Zach Charbonnet set to return from injury, Seattles backfield picture is already shifting ahead of Monday nights primetime matchup with the Bears. The team is also weighing whether to activate rookie running back Jadarian Price from injured reserve after a chest injury, a move that would add another layer of depth to a group that has been in flux.

Prices status matters beyond just one game, because Seattle is sorting out not only who can help against Chicago but what its long-term running back plan looks like. There has been outside chatter about whether Price could become part of a larger roster discussion if the Seahawks pursue Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, which makes this more than a simple health update as the team decides how much value to attach to a young player still trying to get on the field.
