The Seahawks are trying to steady the back end of their defense after Nick Emmanwori’s ankle surgery, and one familiar veteran is now in the mix.
Donovan Wilson worked out with Seattle on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wilson spent the last seven years with the Cowboys, and his connection to Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde could matter here - the two previously worked together in Dallas.
“Former Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson is working out today for the Seahawks,” Schefter reported. “Seattle's defensive coordinator Aden Durde coached Wilson in Dallas.”
Wilson, 31, has been a durable presence for Dallas, appearing in 98 career games with 75 starts. The former sixth-round pick enters the 2026-27 campaign with 444 combined tackles, including 281 solo stops, along with 13 sacks, eight interceptions, nine forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. For Seattle, that kind of résumé gives the team a proven option if it wants more depth in the secondary while Emmanwori works his way back.
Emmanwori’s injury came at the worst possible time for the Seahawks, right as training camp opened. He had surgery on his right ankle, but there is still some hope he can be back by Week 1. The soreness that led to the procedure never fully went away during the offseason, which is why the team decided surgery was necessary.
Seattle hasn’t completely ruled out Emmanwori for its season opener against the New England Patriots on Wednesday, September 9. The 22-year-old, a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, made an immediate impact as a rookie and finished with 81 combined tackles, 56 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks, 11 pass deflections and one interception.
