Seahawks May Finally Get The Backfield Boost They Need Most

As the Seattle Seahawks anticipate the return of dynamic running back Zach Charbonnet for a crucial matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, they aim to revitalize their faltering offense and turn their season around.

The Seattle Seahawks may be getting a needed lift on offense just in time for Week 7.

Running back Zach Charbonnet is expected to be back in the mix against the Kansas City Chiefs, a possible boost for a Seattle team that has had trouble finding offensive rhythm early in the season. The Seahawks are coming off an overtime loss to the Denver Broncos and sit at 3-3, with three of those defeats coming by three points or fewer.

The biggest headache for Seattle has been the ground game. After the loss in Denver, Mike Macdonald said the Seahawks are not creating the run game they want, and Sam Darnold is absorbing too many hits. Charbonnet’s return could help change that.

Charbonnet has been working back from the torn ACL he suffered during Seattle’s playoff win over San Francisco last season. The Seahawks opened his 21-day practice window on Oct. 1 by designating him to return, but he did not make it back for Week 6. The quick Thursday night turnaround against Denver left too little time to properly ramp him up, and Macdonald said then that the plan was not for him to play.

That could be different with a full week to prepare before the Chiefs game.

The Seahawks have also been without rookie running back Jadarian Price, who is on injured reserve, so Charbonnet’s possible return would give them another option in a backfield that has lacked stability. He has already shown what he can bring, piling up 730 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns last season before the injury ended his year in the playoffs.

His return would not fix everything on its own, but it would give Seattle a more dependable running threat and could ease the burden on Darnold. It would also help the Seahawks avoid putting their quarterback in so many obvious passing downs.

That matters even more against Kansas City, especially with nearly two weeks between the Denver loss and the Week 7 matchup. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had previously reported that Charbonnet had a legitimate shot to make his season debut against the Chiefs. If he’s cleared, Seattle could finally get the offensive upgrade it has been waiting for.

Seahawks Trade Deadline Debate Starts With One Urgent Roster Question

Before the Seahawks make any real push toward the trade deadline, the conversation has to start with the middle of the offensive line. Seattle has been linked in recent days to a few big names, including Colts guard Quenton Nelson, Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack and running backs Jonathan Taylor and Saquon Barkley, but the clearest case may be on the interior. Nelson is drawing attention not just because of his talent, but because his contract situation and fit make him the kind of move that could actually address an obvious need without forcing the club into a long-term gamble.

The Seahawks also have some help on the way in the backfield, with Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price expected back from injury. That makes a running back splash less urgent, and it helps explain why Nelson looks like the cleaner fit if Seattle chooses to spend. The teams general manager has also shown a willingness to trade for players on expiring deals and work out new contracts later, which keeps the door open for a deadline move even if the details are still very much in flux. Bengals Suddenly Linked To A Move That Could Change Their Offense

Jonathan Taylor has suddenly become one of the more interesting names to watch as the trade market starts to take shape around a Colts team that has already slid to 2-4 and is trying to sort out its future. Indianapolis recently fired general manager Chris Ballard, and the front office picture is only getting messier with reports that Peyton Manning could be in the mix as a replacement. Against that backdrop, it is no surprise that teams looking to strengthen their offense are checking in.

The Bengals are one of the clubs linked to Taylor, and the Seahawks have also reportedly inquired, which tells you how much attention a proven running back can draw when a season starts to wobble. For Seattle, it is the kind of phone call that fits a bigger search for answers on offense, even if nothing is settled yet. The real question now is whether Indianapolis is willing to listen seriously, or whether this is just the first wave of interest before the market gets even busier. [Read more 🡒]

Seahawks Suddenly Have A High-Stakes Sauce Gardner Decision

Seattles cornerback room has been under the microscope for weeks, and the conversation around it only gets louder when a name like Sauce Gardner enters the picture. The Colts corner is the kind of proven talent that can change how a defense looks on the field, and for a Seahawks team trying to stabilize that part of the roster, the fit is easy to imagine even if the cost is not.

Gardners contract status makes him more than just a rental target, and the asking price would likely force Seattle to weigh whether its willing to part with premium draft capital. The timing adds another layer, too, with Gardner working back from a left calf strain and expected to return soon, leaving the Seahawks to decide whether this is the rare chance to chase an answer at corner or too rich a move for a roster with plenty of other needs.
