Seahawks Head Into Denver With Two Lineup Questions Fans Hate

The Seahawks face lineup challenges against the Broncos with key players out, testing the team's depth and adaptability.

The Seahawks’ quick turnaround got a little uglier on Wednesday, with Mike Macdonald ruling out three players for Thursday night’s matchup with the Broncos.

Drake Thomas, Zach Charbonnet and Chazz Surratt will all miss the game in Denver. Thomas is the biggest blow of the group, especially with the linebacker stepping into a larger role next to Ernest Jones IV in 2025 before an ankle injury late in the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers last week knocked him out of action.

Macdonald said the Seahawks will turn to Tyrice Knight in Thomas’ place. The 2024 fourth-round pick from UTEP has had multiple chances in the starting lineup over his three seasons in Seattle, though he has not seen heavy usage and has just one tackle in 2026.

Charbonnet won’t be available either as he continues his ACL rehab. Seattle missed him badly last week, and the backfield will again be on the spot after Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani both struggled against the 49ers. With the Seahawks adding Velus Jones Jr. to the active roster on Wednesday, he is another running back option for the team.

There could be better news on Charbonnet soon. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported there is a “legitimate chance” the Seahawks back returns in Week 7.

Surratt, who is mainly used on special teams, is also out, which could open the door for the Seahawks to elevate wide reciever Irv Charles from the practice squad for added depth and flexibility in that unit.

Seattle heads to Denver looking to get back on track Thursday at 5:15 p.m.

Seahawks Suddenly Face A Tough Christian Haynes Decision After Latest Loss

Turnovers helped sink Seattle in its loss to the 49ers, and the fallout is reaching beyond the scoreboard as the trade deadline approaches. The Seahawks have been weighing possible roster tweaks, including whether to use guard Christian Haynes as part of a move to help fill the need at running back.

Haynes has been playing well enough lately to draw attention, which makes him one of the more interesting names in the mix. Still, dealing him would come with a real cost up front, since it could open another hole on the offensive line unless Seattle gets the right return in any deal. [Read more 🡒]

Seahawks Have 2 Players Under Pressure As Problems Keep Mounting

The Seahawks are 3-2 and heading into a road matchup against a strong opponent on short rest, which only sharpens the attention on how many issues are still following them from week to week. Close losses have already exposed the same problem areas, from a run game that hasnt given the offense enough balance to turnovers and a defense that has had trouble matching up with bigger receivers.

Josh Jobe and Sam Darnold are among the players feeling that pressure most right now, with both needing cleaner play if Seattle is going to steady itself against a tougher stretch. Jobes role in the secondary has become more important as the Seahawks try to solve those coverage issues, while Darnolds handling of the offense will be a central part of whether the team can turn good moments into something more lasting. Seahawks Suddenly Have A Josh Jobe Problem They Can't Ignore

Josh Jobes latest outing against the 49ers was the kind that can quickly change a cornerbacks standing, especially on a defense that has spent the offseason reworking its secondary. Seattle signed Jobe to a three-year contract, and the expectation was that he would factor into the mix as the Seahawks reshaped the room around him with Trevon Diggs now in the picture and other personnel moves already altering the depth chart.

What makes the situation worth watching is that Jobe is no longer just fighting for snaps in the abstract. The Seahawks have competition building behind him, and a rough performance against a divisional rival puts real pressure on how the team views its starting options going forward. If Seattle decides the current setup is not enough, more changes to the cornerback group would not be a surprise. [Read more 🡒]
