The Seahawks may be grinding through the second half of the season, but the draft picture is already coming into focus - and one mock has Seattle adding a massive new weapon for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
In his latest projection, Seahawks contributor Tim Crean slotted Rutgers wide receiver KJ Duff to Seattle with the No. 17 overall pick. Crean made the case that the Seahawks need another pass catcher to ease the burden on Smith-Njigba, writing, "No wide receiver in the NFL is more relied on than Jaxson [sic] Smith-Njigba.
The Seahawks need to find him a running-mate, because he can’t continue to carry the passing game all by himself. The 6-foot-6 KJ Duffy [sic] is an interesting player here, because the big target is so different than JSN that he just might be the perfect No. 2 in Seattle," Crean wrote.
The numbers back up the concern. Through seven games, Smith-Njigba has been targeted 78 times, and no other Seattle player has more than 30. His 867 receiving yards are more than 150 ahead of the rest of the league.
It’s not just a one-man show in the box score, either. No other Seahawks receiver has topped 200 yards this season, which makes the idea of adding another threat feel pretty logical. A big-bodied target like Duff could give Seattle a different kind of answer, especially near the goal line.
At the same time, the roster math is a little tricky. Seattle signed Rashid Shaheed to a 3-year, $51 million deal and also made Smith-Njigba the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL this past offseason, so spending another first-rounder on the position might not be the cleanest fit if other needs are staring them in the face.
One of those needs is on the pass rush. The Seahawks are expected to have to replace DeMarcus Lawrence next season, since he is headed for retirement, and a young edge rusher who can grow into the role could be a better long-term play. Alabama’s Yhonzae Pierre has been linked to Seattle before, and he’s another name to keep on the radar.
For now, the Seahawks turn their attention back to the field. They face the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, with kickoff set for 5:15 pm PT at Lumen Field. Fans can watch on ESPN or stream the game on the ESPN app.

Seahawks Backfield Just Got Much More Interesting Before Monday Night
The Seahawks backfield is about to get a lot more crowded, and the timing could not be better for a team heading into Monday Night Football against the Bears. Zach Charbonnet is expected to make his 2026 season debut after working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in last seasons playoffs, a recovery that included surgery and a lengthy rehab process.
Charbonnet and Jadarian Price both carry no injury designation, which gives Seattle a healthier running back room than it has had in a while. For a team trying to sort out roles and rhythm early in the season, getting Charbonnet back on the field adds another layer to an offense that could use the boost, even if the full picture of how the carries will be split is still coming into focus. Seahawks Face A Jadarian Price Decision Bigger Than Just Monday Night
With Quenton Nelson expected to make his Seahawks debut at left guard and Zach Charbonnet set to return from injury, Seattles backfield picture is already shifting ahead of Monday nights primetime matchup with the Bears. The team is also weighing whether to activate rookie running back Jadarian Price from injured reserve after a chest injury, a move that would add another layer of depth to a group that has been in flux.
Prices status matters beyond just one game, because Seattle is sorting out not only who can help against Chicago but what its long-term running back plan looks like. There has been outside chatter about whether Price could become part of a larger roster discussion if the Seahawks pursue Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, which makes this more than a simple health update as the team decides how much value to attach to a young player still trying to get on the field. Seahawks Send A Clear Leadership Message Before Bears Showdown
With Monday Night Football bringing the Bears to Seattle in Week 8, the Seahawks have already put a spotlight on who will carry the leadership load. The team announced its captains for the matchup, with quarterback Sam Darnold joined by safeties Julian Love and Rodney Thomas II, a group that reflects both the offense and the back end of the defense.
Seattle has made a habit of rotating captains each week, so the designation is part of a larger pattern rather than a one-off honor. Still, the choices offer a small window into how the Seahawks are organizing themselves heading into a nationally televised game, with familiar voices in the huddle and on the field expected to help set the tone against Chicago.
