Seahawks Defense Just Got A Telling Sign Before Facing Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a strategic battle against the formidable Seattle Seahawks defense, as head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes outline their game plan.

The matchup in Seattle has all the ingredients of a heavyweight test: the NFL’s top defense against the league’s top offense, with the Seahawks set to host the Kansas City Chiefs at Lumen Field on Sunday night.

Kansas City knows exactly what kind of challenge is waiting. Andy Reid was direct about the Seahawks’ defense and the way it plays as a unit.

“They’re the best in the business right now,” Reid told reporters. “Mike [Macdonald] does a nice job with the defense, and they have a good scheme; then they fly around.

They believe in it, and they fly around. They aren’t a lot of hiccups on the back end.

You see some teams where something goes on, and suddenly someone is popping free. You don’t see that with these guys.”

For the Chiefs, the assignment is clear: deal with Seattle’s speed, discipline and structure without letting the game tilt into a mess for Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes said the Seahawks are dangerous from front to back.

“They’re good at every single level of the defense,” Mahomes said in a press conference. “Defensive line, linebackers, secondary, everybody, and they have a great scheme. They’re going to make you earn it every single drive, and it’s not always going to be pretty, but you have to be consistent and not push it too far, but push it enough to make plays happen.”

Mahomes also pointed back to his matchups with Baltimore, where Macdonald was the defensive coordinator in 2022 and 2023. Macdonald’s last game with the Ravens came in the AFC Championship, a 17-point defensive effort that still wasn’t enough because Baltimore’s offense scored only 10.

That game offered a blueprint for how Mahomes can work against a fast, aggressive defense: get the ball out quickly, move in the pocket, and avoid giving the rush a clean path to him. That same formula figures to matter again against Seattle on Sunday night.

The Seahawks will need to match Kansas City’s tempo, stay attached in coverage and force Mahomes into throws he doesn’t want to make. If they can make him hold the ball, the rush has a chance to finish the play. If not, the Chiefs have the kind of quarterback who can turn a small opening into a big one.

Kickoff is set for Sunday at 5:20 p.m. PT inside Lumen Field. The game will air on NBC and stream on Peacock.

Rams Suddenly Have An Offensive Question They May Not Avoid Much Longer

The NFC West picture got a little more complicated Monday night, when the 49ers beat Washington 23-17 and some of their players were already talking about how much sharper they need to be against more efficient opponents. For the Seahawks, it is the kind of backdrop that keeps the division in focus, especially with Seattle trying to sort out its own offense while watching how the teams around it respond to early-season pressure.

Across the division, the Rams suddenly have a personnel issue they may not be able to ignore for long. Tight end Terrance Ferguson is not expected to be ready to come off injured reserve anytime soon, and with Davante Adams now out because of injury, the possibility of adding help at receiver is starting to loom. Seattle has its own questions as Sam Darnold works through a rough start, with some evaluators still seeing him as a quarterback who needs the right structure around him, while the Seahawks also weigh what a possible Week 7 return for Zach Charbonnet could mean for the offense. Kenneth Walkers Seattle Return Just Got A Lot More Interesting

Kenneth Walkers first trip back to Seattle is shaping up as one of the more intriguing storylines on the Chiefs schedule. The running back has been a driving force behind Kansas Citys 5-0 start, and he arrives as the NFLs rushing leader, a reminder of just how quickly he has become central to the offense after moving on from his former team.

The return also carries a little extra edge because it is happening in a place that knows him well. Chiefs players and Andy Reid have both weighed in on the matchup, while the team has been sorting through its usual injury and practice updates as it gets ready for the week ahead, adding another layer to a game that already had plenty of attention. Seahawks Suddenly Have A New Problem Ahead Of Chiefs Week 7

The Seahawks got one piece of good news heading into Week 7 when running back Zach Charbonnet was activated off the physically unable to perform list, giving the offense another option as it prepares for Kansas City. But the roster picture shifted quickly on the other side of the ball, where tight end Elijah Arroyo was ruled out for the rest of the 2026 season after shoulder surgery.

Arroyo, in his second year, had been working with limited production before the injury, and now Seattle has to sort out the tight end snaps without him. The team will lean on the other players at that position to absorb the workload, but losing a young contributor this early in the season adds another layer of pressure to a matchup week that already demands clean roster management.
