Seahawks Backfield Questions Arent Going Away Before 49ers Showdown

As Zach Charbonnet remains sidelined, the Seahawks' evolving backfield faces a crucial test against the 49ers while betting experts eye new opportunities.

Zach Charbonnet will sit out again in Week 5, extending his absence to a fifth straight game as the Seattle Seahawks continue to wait on the running back’s return from the knee injury he suffered in last season’s playoffs.

Charbonnet has been back at practice for the past two weeks, and Seattle appears to be inching toward getting him back in the mix. He is still on the PUP list, but the team opened his practice window earlier this month, giving Seattle 21 days to activate him.

That makes a Week 6 return feel like the most realistic landing spot right now.

For Sunday’s NFC West matchup against the 49ers, though, the Seahawks will have to make do without him. Emanuel Wilson and George Holani are set to handle the backfield duties against San Francisco.

Charbonnet’s absence is especially notable because Seattle’s running game has taken hit after hit from injuries. Jadarian Price is on injured reserve with a chest issue, and the Seahawks’ signing of Joe Mixon fell through, leaving the room thinner than expected.

Before the injury, Charbonnet had been part of a productive tandem with Kenneth Walker III. Last season, he helped Seattle get to a 14-3 regular-season record and finished 2025 with 184 carries for a career-high 730 yards and 12 scores.

With Charbonnet still sidelined, SI Betting is leaning into Wilson’s receiving outlook for the matchup. In this week’s Player Prop Countdown, Iain MacMillan pointed to the 49ers’ struggles against backs in the passing game, noting that San Francisco has allowed the most receptions to opposing running backs in the league with 31, four more than any other team.

Wilson offered a small sample of that type of usage last week against the Chargers, catching three passes and finding the end zone once. Based on that role, MacMillan said he believes Wilson can get to at least two receptions against San Francisco.

Tom Bradys Seahawks Call Is Going To Divide Fans

Tom Bradys second straight season in the Fox booth has already produced the kind of clip that gets replayed long after the game ends, and his comments during a 49ers-Seahawks matchup fit that mold. When Sam Darnold took a hit from Dre Greenlaw, Brady suggested the Seahawks quarterback was acting, a remark that immediately put him at the center of the conversation in a game that was already chippy and tightly watched.

Greenlaw was later ejected after headbutting a helmetless player and also drew a flag for a late hit on Darnold, only adding fuel to a moment that already had plenty of edge. Bradys analysis of other plays from the game drew notice too, but it was the Darnold comment that stood out and figures to split Seahawks fans between those who want sharper broadcast critique and those who thought he crossed a line. Seahawks Suddenly Have A Riq Woolen Decision Worth Watching

Riq Woolens name has a way of circling back into the Seahawks conversation, and this time the fit feels a little more practical than nostalgic. Seattles cornerback group has struggled enough this season to keep the front office looking for answers, and Woolen, now in his first season with the Eagles on a one-year deal, is the sort of player who naturally lands on the radar when a team wants help on the back end.

Philadelphias willingness to listen only adds to the intrigue, even if any move would likely require draft capital to get done. Woolen has flashed enough to keep evaluators interested, but his season has also been uneven, which is why the Seahawks would have to weigh upside against price before making a move. For a secondary that needs help, the possibility is there, but so is the risk of overpaying for a familiar name. [Read more 🡒]

49ers Just Lost A Weapon Seahawks Fans Know Can Change Games

The 49ers left Sunday night with a win over the Seahawks, but they also came away with a costly injury to one of the most familiar difference-makers in the division. Deebo Samuel suffered a hamstring injury in the game and will miss at least a few weeks, a setback for San Francisco at a time when the receiver room is already thin.

Kyle Shanahan acknowledged the challenge of losing multiple pass-catchers at once, with several other receivers also sidelined. It is the kind of blow Seattle knows well from years of trying to account for Samuels versatility, and it changes the way the 49ers have to build their offense while he recovers. Backup linebacker Garret Wallow also hurt his hamstring and is expected to miss some time. [Read more 🡒]
