The Rams have moved into the top spot in the NFL roster rankings, edging out the Seahawks and grabbing the league’s No. 1 label in the process.
That’s a notable shift in a division where Seattle is coming off a Super Bowl victory and doesn’t have many glaring holes. Even so, the Rams were the team that got the nod from CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani and Tyler Sullivan, and the reason starts with the kind of pass rush that can change a season in a hurry. Los Angeles’ front was highlighted as a major strength, with Myles Garrett, Byron Young and maybe Aaron Donald giving the Rams a look that stands out across the league.
The biggest question for the Rams, oddly enough, sits at quarterback. Matthew Stafford, the reigning NFL MVP, was identified as a concern entering 2026.
Dajani pointed back to last summer, when Stafford’s nagging back injury created real uncertainty about whether he’d even be ready for Week 1. The injury faded, Stafford delivered a huge season, and the whole episode became a reminder of how fast the conversation can change around a veteran quarterback.
Kansas City also made the cut in the top 16, even with some offensive line concerns still hanging around. The Chiefs did add to their depth in the trenches by bringing in Josh Ezeudu from the Giants, which at least gives them another body to work with up front.
There’s still plenty of roster movement to watch as cut-down day gets closer. Among the names that could surface for quarterback-needy teams is former No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson. Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is another player to keep an eye on as teams keep searching for ways to improve.
Elsewhere around the league, the NFL has officially done away with the Pro Bowl after 75 years. The league is now the only Big Four sport without an All-Star game, though it will still recognize 88 All-Stars each year. The NFL is also rolling out a new three-strike policy in 2026 for five penalties considered the most unsafe.
On the golf side, the 2026 Tour Championship begins today at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, where 30 players will tee off with the FedEx Cup title and a $10 million prize on the line. The event starts at 11 a.m.
ET, and the preview from CBS Sports’ golf team includes picks for winners, sleepers and the favorite most likely to fall short. Scottie Scheffler is no longer viewed as a clear runaway, and Patrick McDonald is backing Patrick Cantlay, saying, "The 2021 FedEx Cup champion has not won a tournament in over four years, but this is the time of year that grabs his attention with his game peaking at precisely the right moment.
Over the last three months, he ranks third in this field in strokes gained tee to green and second in iron play. The question is whether he can make enough putts."
McDonald’s pick comes with Cantlay searching for his first tournament win in quite some time, and Rory McIlroy has already floated some dream future Tour Championship venues.
