Raiders Hire Seahawks Coach for Major Role in Offensive Overhaul

In a move that deepens the coaching ties between Las Vegas and Seattle, the Raiders are turning to a familiar face from the Seahawks' sideline to lead their offense.

The coaching carousel is spinning fast, and the Seattle Seahawks are right in the middle of it. Just as word broke that Seattle is set to bring in 49ers run game coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Fleury as their new offensive coordinator, another piece of the puzzle shifted-quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko is heading to Las Vegas to become the Raiders’ offensive coordinator.

Janocko’s move isn’t just a lateral coaching shift-it’s a reunion. He’ll be rejoining Klint Kubiak, who recently took over as the Raiders’ head coach after helping guide the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title as their offensive coordinator. The two have a long history of working together, and that continuity clearly played a role in this hire.

Janocko was one of four internal candidates who interviewed for the Seahawks’ vacant OC role late last week. The others included passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten, and tight ends coach Mack Brown. Ultimately, Seattle decided to go outside the building, reportedly zeroing in on Fleury-a move that opened the door for Janocko to make his next move.

At 37, Janocko brings a wealth of experience that belies his age. He and Kubiak go way back.

They were both on the New Orleans Saints staff in 2022-Kubiak as offensive coordinator, Janocko as quarterbacks coach-and before that, they shared the sideline in Minnesota from 2019 to 2021. That stint included the 2021 season, when Kubiak was calling plays as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator and Janocko was guiding the quarterbacks room.

Janocko’s NFL journey started in Tampa Bay, where he worked as an offensive quality control coach from 2012 to 2013. He spent seven years with the Vikings in a variety of roles and most recently served as quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears before joining Seattle’s staff last offseason.

The Raiders, meanwhile, had clearly cast a wide net in their OC search. They also interviewed Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson, according to reports.

On the defensive side, Las Vegas had been evaluating options as well. Safeties coach Jeff Howard reportedly interviewed for the defensive coordinator position on Saturday, but the team ultimately decided to promote from within, elevating defensive line coach Rob Leonard to DC on Sunday.

As for Justin Outten, the Raiders were reportedly interested in bringing him over as their run game coordinator, but Seattle wasn’t willing to let him go. According to ESPN, the Seahawks blocked the interview request, a clear sign that they value what Outten brings to their offensive staff-especially with a new OC coming in.

Bottom line: Seattle’s offensive coaching staff is undergoing a major shake-up, and the ripple effects are being felt across the league. With Fleury expected to take over the reins in Seattle and Janocko now heading to Vegas, both franchises are banking on familiarity and system continuity to build something sustainable. These aren’t just coaching hires-they’re strategic moves that reflect a broader vision on both sides.
