The Seattle Seahawks are undergoing a significant shakeup on the offensive side of the ball, and the ripple effects are being felt across the league.
On the same day reports emerged that Seattle is set to hire 49ers run game coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Fleury as their new offensive coordinator, another key member of the Seahawks’ offensive staff is on the move. Quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko is expected to join the Las Vegas Raiders as their offensive coordinator, reuniting with Klint Kubiak, who recently took over as head coach in Vegas.
Janocko’s departure isn’t just a coaching shuffle-it’s a reunion years in the making. His connection with Kubiak runs deep.
The two worked together in New Orleans, where Kubiak served as offensive coordinator and Janocko coached quarterbacks. Before that, they spent three seasons together in Minnesota (2019-2021), including a 2021 campaign where Kubiak was the OC and Janocko handled the QB room.
That kind of continuity and familiarity is gold in the NFL, especially when building out a new staff in a fresh setting.
Janocko, 37, was one of four internal candidates who reportedly interviewed for the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator job last week. Alongside him were passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten, and tight ends coach Mack Brown. Ultimately, Seattle chose to go outside the building with Fleury, while Janocko heads south to Vegas for a promotion.
His coaching résumé is quietly impressive. Janocko’s NFL journey began as an offensive quality control coach with the Buccaneers from 2012-2013.
He then spent seven seasons in Minnesota in various roles, including assistant offensive line coach and wide receivers coach before taking over as quarterbacks coach. After a year in Chicago coaching QBs in 2022, he joined Seattle last offseason, following Kubiak’s move to the Pacific Northwest.
Over in Las Vegas, Janocko wasn’t the only name in the mix. Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson also interviewed for the OC job.
On the defensive side, the Raiders had discussions with Seattle safeties coach Jeff Howard about the defensive coordinator role. But instead of going outside the organization, the team promoted defensive line coach Rob Leonard to DC on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Raiders had their sights on another Seahawks assistant: Justin Outten. According to reports, Las Vegas requested to interview him for a run game coordinator position, but Seattle blocked the move. That’s a clear sign of how much the Seahawks value Outten’s role in their offensive operation, even amid a broader coaching transition.
In just a few days, Seattle’s offensive coaching staff has seen a major overhaul, with some familiar faces leaving and new ones stepping in. As the Seahawks pivot toward a new era under Fleury, and as Janocko takes the next step in his career alongside Kubiak in Vegas, both franchises are betting on continuity, chemistry, and fresh ideas to drive their offenses forward.
