Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, isn’t sold on Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald’s embrace of AI.
On Friday, Kelly Stafford posted to her Instagram stories with a graphic that said the Seahawks were “deeply” using AI, then added her own take:
"I’m sure everyone is doing this or maybe not, I don’t know… but it just doesn’t feel right."
The reaction came after Macdonald told The Athletic that he sees tools like Copilot becoming an important part of Seattle’s preparation process and potentially a “competitive advantage” for reigning Super Bowl champions. The same report said the Seahawks are already “deeply integrating” AI into their daily operations.
Kelly Stafford also included a poll on her stories asking, “Does AI scare you?” with “Yes” and “No” as the options.
The comments land in the middle of a tense rivalry backdrop between Stafford’s Los Angeles Rams and Macdonald’s Seahawks. Seattle knocked the Rams out in the NFC Championship game last season before going on to win Super Bowl LX.
The two teams will meet on Christmas Day and then again in Week 18. They’re also in a crowded NFC West that includes the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals.
For Stafford, the 2026 season opened on a rough note. The reigning MVP threw for 155 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in a 27-7 loss to the 49ers in Australia.
The Rams looked out of sync from the jump and now turn the page quickly to Week 2, when they host Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA.
Macdonald, meanwhile, started his season on the right foot. He guided the Seahawks to a 13-10 win over the New England Patriots on opening day, a workmanlike result against their Super Bowl LX opponents that put Seattle at 1-0.
Next up for Macdonald and the Seahawks is a matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle will try to keep the pressure on after beating Arizona twice in 2025.
