Tom Brady’s name is back in the middle of Patriots outrage, and this time it started with one vague comment from Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald.
During Thursday’s appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Macdonald said he had spoken with several people while preparing for Super Bowl LX, including one person he declined to name because of a possible conflict of interest. He put it this way: “John Harbaugh and I talked,” Macdonald said.
“He was great. Probably can’t mention one guy that really helped us out that had some conflict of interest.”
That was enough to send Patriots fans into detective mode.
A wave of speculation quickly landed on Brady, even though Macdonald never identified the person he was talking about. The reaction spread fast online, with some fans treating the idea like a betrayal of the franchise legend and others taking the accusation even further.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy jumped into the conversation, writing, “If this doesn’t p**s you off as a Patriots fan you are dead on this inside,” Portnoy wrote. “I’m not going to say who they are saying gave a ton of advice to the Seahawks before the Super Bowl but the guy has a statue in front of our stadium.”
Portnoy has previously urged the Pats to get rid of Brady’s statue.
The speculation didn’t stop there. One commenter wrote, “Tom Brady still finding new ways to cheat.
He truly is the goat,” while another said, “Definitely Brady. Since he worked with McDaniels he probably gave him all his quirks and tricks.
What a scumbag,” one user claimed.
Another fan went even harder: “If there is proof it is indeed Brady? Dismantle the damn statute and never speak his name again in civilized society,” one fan said.
And the pile-on kept building. “Tom Brady smh, he’s the ultimate traitor can’t believe we suck up to him when he doesn’t give 2 s**ts abt us,” someone else moaned.
For now, though, that’s all this is: speculation. There’s no evidence Brady was the person Macdonald meant, and Macdonald never named him. Still, fans have latched onto one possible link - Brady is now a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, and reportedly pushed the franchise to hire Klint Kubiak before Kubiak ultimately landed in Seattle.
That connection has only added fuel to the theory that Brady may have had some kind of tie to Seattle’s coaching staff.
Brady also stirred things up earlier when he revealed he wasn’t rooting for his old team in the buildup to February’s showdown. But as far as this latest round of accusations goes, there’s still no confirmation that the seven-time Super Bowl champion gave Seattle any advice before its victory over New England.
