Josh Jobe ended New England’s last real chance with one sharp, filthy play.
With the Patriots down three after giving away a 10-point lead and sitting at Seattle’s 16-yard line with 26 seconds left, Drake Maye had a decision tree that was brutally simple: score, kick, or cough it up. He chose the wrong door. Maye fired into a double-covered Mack Hollins in the end zone, and Jobe snagged the ball at the boundary to seal Seattle’s win.
“It was game on the line,” Jobe said after the game. “Like we always talk about, we’ve got to live in the death zone; we came alive, and we took the ball away. That’s what we always talked about throughout the week: Take the ball away, and keep my eye on the ball.”
Landing in bounds as close to the sideline as he did, Jobe said he had to double-check the finish.
“Yeah, I had to make sure. I had to make sure I had my feet in … and it was a blessing.”
For Maye, the ending was ugly, and it capped the first three-interception game of his career. The final pick was especially painful from a decision-making standpoint. Even so, he finished 23 of 33 for 178 yards and a touchdown, though he was outplayed by Seahawks backup quarterback Drew Lock.
Julian Love called the takeaway a huge moment for Seattle.
“That was an impressive pick,” Seahawks safety Julian Love said. “Josh Jobe, man, he’s such a steady presence for us as a pro, as a person.
And yeah, critical moment, end of the game, to go up like that and get perfectly two [feet] in, is incredible. He’s worked hard, and that’s a great play.”
Jobe has settled in as Seattle’s No. 2 cornerback this season with Riq Woolen no longer in the building, and the Seahawks rewarded him with a three-year, $24 million deal after his 2025 breakthrough. Love and No. 3 cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett also came away with interceptions.
The Patriots had already seen plenty of pain from Maye in their loss to Seattle in Super Bowl LX, when he was sacked six times and went 27 of 43 for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. A cleaner rematch never really arrived. His best chance to beat Seattle’s defense again this season would have to wait for another Super Bowl.
