As Super Bowl 60 looms, we’ve got a familiar matchup with a decade-long grudge baked in: the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, squaring off once again in a rematch of their unforgettable clash back in 2014. But while fans are picking sides based on history, geography, or pure gut feeling, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is keeping it personal-and loyal.
Allen joined First Things First on FS1 and was asked who he’s pulling for in this year’s Super Bowl. His answer?
Seattle. And the reason goes beyond simple AFC East rivalries.
“Sam Darnold, that’s my boy,” Allen said. “We go back to the Draft… even before the draft, we’ve hung out when we were in college.
We live pretty close together. We spend a lot of time in the offseason together playing golf and hanging out.
I’m rooting for my man there, #14 for the Seattle Seahawks.”
That’s a genuine vote of support-not just a quarterback dodging a division rival, but a friend backing another friend on the game’s biggest stage.
Allen and Darnold both came out of the 2018 NFL Draft class, and their bond has clearly grown over the years. From college hangouts to offseason golf sessions, it’s the kind of relationship that goes beyond the field. So when Allen says he’s cheering for Seattle, it’s not just about avoiding another Patriots ring-it’s about standing by someone he’s shared a journey with.
Sure, Allen has respect for what Mike Vrabel and rookie quarterback Drake Maye have done in New England this season. But let’s be honest-pulling for a division rival in the Super Bowl?
That’s a tough sell for any competitor. Add in a close friendship with the guy leading Seattle’s offense, and it’s no surprise where Allen’s allegiance lies.
So when the Seahawks and Patriots take the field for Super Bowl 60, don’t be shocked if Allen’s watching with a little extra interest every time #14 drops back to pass. This one’s personal-and that’s what makes sports so great.
