As Jaxon Smith-Njigba gears up for his fourth season with the Seattle Seahawks, the buzz around his potential contract extension is reaching a fever pitch. At just 24, JSN has consistently elevated his game, culminating in a standout 2025 season where he racked up an impressive 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns-leading the league in receiving yards.
His stellar performance didn't go unnoticed, earning him the AP Offensive Player of the Year award. Now, as contract extension talks loom on the horizon, Smith-Njigba is making his intentions clear: he aims to be the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
In a candid conversation with WFAA's Jonah Javad, Smith-Njigba expressed his aspirations. "I think I deserve to be the highest-paid in my position," he stated.
"I give my all to the game and the community. While I'd play for free because I love it, I'm learning the business side, and that check is important."
Given his 2025 achievements, it's no surprise JSN is eyeing a market-resetting deal, and he's got a solid case to back it up. Yet, he's in no rush.
"I'm really not too pressed right now to get it done," he explained. "I know my time is coming, and when it happens, it'll be a great deal."
Currently, Ja'Marr Chase holds the top wide receiver contract with a total value of $161 million and an annual average of $40.25 million. Meanwhile, Justin Jefferson boasts the highest total and fully guaranteed money at $110 million and $88.74 million, respectively.
With two years left on his rookie deal, Seattle has some breathing room. However, as the market continues to evolve, waiting could mean a heftier price tag for Smith-Njigba's talents. The Seahawks have a decision to make, and JSN's future contract could set a new benchmark in the NFL.
