Seahawks fans got a reminder in Week 2 that Cody White can still make teams pay.
The Raiders, who have clearly spent plenty of time raiding Seattle’s roster, found a real one in White. Through two games, no former Seahawk has delivered more for Las Vegas head coach Klint Kubiak than the wide receiver who kept flashing the kind of traits Seattle already knew he had.
White’s Seattle résumé never looked flashy at a glance - five catches on seven targets doesn’t jump off the page - but the production was there. He turned those grabs into 134 yards, moved the chains four times, and even delivered that 60-yard touchdown against the Commanders in Week 9 on Sunday Night Football.
He also did work on special teams, which mattered in a Seahawks receiver room that simply had too much talent to clear a path for him. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, and Rasheed Shaheed aren’t going anywhere.
That squeeze helped open the door for other Seattle receivers to rise. Tory Horton, now in his second year, has been working his way back into form, while Montorie Foster, Jr. made his case.
Emanuel Henderson Jr. ended up slipping through to Seattle’s ready squad. White, though, was the one Kubiak wanted to bring along.
He got the call last week against the Dolphins, and his first game in silver and black came with 11 offensive snaps and one target. The special-teams workload looked familiar, but the real payoff arrived Sunday.
Las Vegas needed a spark against the Chargers, and it got one from another familiar Seattle name first. Dareke Young hauled in just one catch, but it was a big one: a 27-yard flea-flicker that pushed the Raiders to the Los Angeles 13-yard line while they trailed 14-10.
From there, White took over. On third-and-five from the Chargers’ 11, Cousins dropped a perfect throw into the end zone, and White used every inch of his 6-foot-3 frame to secure the go-ahead touchdown. It was only the second touchdown of his career, even though he’s in his fifth season.
Later in the fourth quarter, with the game still hanging there, Cousins found White again. This one covered 11 yards, and no defender came close to contesting it. The Chargers simply lost track of him.
The timing makes the whole thing even stranger: White was elevated from the Raiders’ practice squad on Saturday. However Vegas labels the arrangement, the move worked. And for Seahawks fans, it was another confirmation that Cody White was never a throwaway.

Sean Payton Nearly Turned Seahawks Scouting Into A Week 6 Feud
Mike Macdonalds first season in Seattle had an unexpected subplot well beyond the usual chess match of NFL coaching. In a recent interview, the Seahawks coach said Broncos head coach Sean Payton threatened to go public with accusations that Seattle had engaged in a Spygate-like cheating scheme after the Seahawks used publicly available fan-recorded training camp video to study Denver.
The issue never became a formal scandal because the Seahawks pushed back and were prepared to respond legally, and Payton ultimately backed off. Even so, the episode adds another layer to the leagues long memory of sign-stealing disputes, and it shows how something as ordinary as publicly accessible practice footage can still set off a tense standoff between two veteran coaching staffs. Seahawks Suddenly Have A QB Decision Fans Didn't Expect
Sam Darnolds return to the practice field could put the Seahawks in an unexpected spot entering Sundays game against the Washington Commanders. Sidelined since Sept. 9 with a glute strain, Darnold is expected to work on Wednesday in some capacity, giving Seattle its first real update in a stretch that has kept the quarterback situation in flux.
Mike Macdonald left the door open for Darnold to play if the week goes well, but Drew Lock has made the conversation more complicated. In two games filling in, Lock has completed 35 of 48 passes with four touchdowns and no turnovers, giving Seattle reason to believe it can keep rolling even as the team weighs how soon to turn back to its starter. Seahawks Week 2 Win May Have Changed More Than Fans Realize
The Seahawks Week 2 comeback in Arizona did more than add another win to the ledger. After a sluggish opening, Seattle found its rhythm and piled up 24 points in the second half, with contributions from across the roster helping turn a shaky afternoon into a strong finish. Christian Haynes settled in nicely at right guard, while safety Julian Love kept making plays that mattered when the game was still hanging in the balance.
Seattle also came out of the game with some roster questions still lingering. Injuries and uneven performances affected a few players, including rookie running back Jadarian Price and wide receiver Rashid Shaeed, and the team could be looking at changes as it turns to Week 3. For a Seahawks group still sorting out who can be trusted in key spots, the performance in Arizona may prove to be as important for what it revealed as for the win itself. [Read more 🡒]
