Former Seahawks RB Says Goodbye After A Journey Fans Will Remember

After a commendable seven-year stint in the NFL, Myles Gaskin retires, leaving behind a legacy of gratitude and a future of mentorship.

Myles Gaskin’s football journey has reached the finish line.

The former Seahawks running back announced Wednesday that he is retiring from professional football at 29, ending a seven-year NFL run that started as a seventh-round pick and eventually took him through several teams and cities.

Seattle ended up being the last stop. Gaskin appeared for the Seahawks late in the 2025 season, and that Week 13 game against the Vikings became his final pro outing. In a 26-0 win, he handled three carries for six yards while seeing action on offense and special teams.

In his retirement post on Instagram, Gaskin opened with thanks to the game that carried him this far: “Thank you, God; you have allowed me to live my childhood's greatest dream, which was to play the game I loved at the highest level,” he wrote, before looking back on his path through the University of Washington, O'Dea High School, and his roots as a Richmond Bulldog.

He also made sure to give the Seahawks a special nod for letting him finish where it all began. “To the Seattle Seahawks, thank you for letting me play my last snaps back at the crib.”

Gaskin entered the league as a seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2019 and spent four seasons in Miami. He later had shorter stops with the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks. Over 47 games with 17 starts, he put up 367 carries for 1,360 yards and seven touchdowns, while adding 102 catches for 712 yards and six scores.

Before the NFL, Gaskin built a college résumé that still stands alone at Washington. His 62 total touchdowns and 5,323 rushing yards remain the most in Husky history, and he became the school’s first true freshman to rush for more than 1,000 yards.

His farewell message also read like a thank-you list. Gaskin singled out trainer Tracy Ford “for taking a chance on a random kid who just showed up at your gym,” gave longtime teammate Salvon Ahmed a quick “what a ride,” and thanked his parents, Scott and Robbie Gaskin, for a gift that stretched beyond football.

He closed by turning the message toward what comes next. “What I will do is give all the game you gave me to the next generation of young players who dare to be great,” he wrote.

“Thank you. It's been real.”

Seahawks Suddenly Have A WR5 Problem They Didn't Expect

Jake Bobo was in line to be Seattles fifth receiver this season, a useful depth piece coming off a two-year contract extension signed earlier this year. Instead, a knee injury during a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans has changed the picture quickly, with head coach Mike Macdonald calling it serious and potentially long-term.

The Seahawks now have to sort through other wideouts to fill that WR5 role while Bobo begins his recovery. For a roster that had already penciled him into a specific spot, it is an unexpected hit to receiver depth and a reminder that the back end of the depth chart can become a real issue in a hurry. Seahawks Entering A New Offensive Era With One Big Reason For Hope

Grey Zabel is already sounding like one of the early believers in Seattles new offensive direction, and that matters for a team trying to reset after a major change on the sideline. Brian Fleury is taking over in his first season as offensive coordinator after stops with the 49ers, Bills and Browns, and the Seahawks are asking a new voice to keep the unit moving after Klint Kubiaks run ended with a Super Bowl title and a move to Las Vegas.

For Zabel, the confidence seems to start with the way Fleury is being received inside the building, where a fresh system can either settle quickly or take longer to click. Seattle has every reason to want a smooth transition, because the bar was already raised by the success that came before, and the first signs of buy-in from a veteran voice like Zabel suggest the Seahawks may not be starting from scratch after all. Seahawks Suddenly Face A Jake Bobo Problem They Didnt Expect

Jake Bobos re-signed status made him one of the quieter but more useful parts of the Seahawks receiver room, the kind of player coaches appreciate even when he is not grabbing headlines. He brought value beyond the box score, with a reputation for steady special teams work and a locker room presence that fit well in Seattle as training camp moved along.

Now the Seahawks are dealing with a much different reality after head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed Bobo suffered a serious knee injury that could linger well beyond this season. It creates an unexpected opening in camp and the preseason, with other receivers suddenly getting a clearer path to make their case while Seattle waits to see how long Bobos absence lasts.
