Drake Maye’s season opener turned into one of those nights a quarterback wants to erase fast.
The New England Patriots fell 13-10 to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday night in a Super Bowl 60 rematch, and Maye’s performance was the biggest reason the comeback never got off the ground. After a 2025 season that put him in MVP-caliber territory, the Patriots quarterback had a rough start to 2026, throwing three interceptions. The final one came at the worst possible time, with New England in field goal range and a real shot to tie the game before the turnover shut the door.
Maye didn’t hide from it afterward. “I lost patience, and it cost us.
Decisions that cost us the game on my part…you can’t have those, it’s unacceptable. I gotta get back to work, because that wasn’t how I play football,” Maye said after the game.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel also pointed to the balance the team was trying to strike. “I mean we’re trying to be aggressive and obviously win the football game but not reckless…But we’ll have to learn from it and you know stick together.
Never just about one guy. I think everybody knows that by now,” Vrabel said.
The loss also dropped Maye to 0-12 against teams with a winning record.
Off the field, Anne Michael was active before kickoff and then went silent once the game unfolded. Michael, Maye’s wife and high school sweetheart, has grown a major social media audience over the past year and now has more than 500,000 Instagram followers.
Before the game, she posted, “GAMEDAY IN SEATTLE!!!” and “GO PATS.”
She also shared a promotional video about her gameday routine ahead of the matchup, featuring recipes, cleaning products, and a chance to win two tickets to Super Bowl LXI in Los Angeles.
After that, nothing. Michael didn’t post during the second half and stayed quiet after the final whistle, as Maye’s difficult night played out. The Patriots now head into Week 2 looking to reset, and Maye will try to put a frustrating opener behind him.
