Seattle Seahawks fans hoping to catch a first look at Jadarian Price will have to wait a little longer.
Price, the first-round pick out of Notre Dame, has been dealing with upper leg soreness and missed several days of practice this week. He did take part in Friday’s walk-through, but that wasn’t enough to get him onto the field Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Price will not suit up for the game.
That leaves Seattle to keep sorting through its backfield options while Price stays sidelined. The Seahawks brought him in with the idea that he could help fill the void left by Kenneth Walker III, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs during free agency.
With Zach Charbonnet still recovering from a torn ACL, Seattle has been looking for a lead back, and Price arrived as a potential answer. He’s also been battling George Holani for that role.
The preseason may not offer much in the way of high-stakes football, but it does give players a chance to make a case. That’s especially true for Price, who could have used these exhibition snaps to build momentum. Instead, the Seahawks will play it cautious and hold him out rather than push him in a game that doesn’t count.
Price isn’t the only back whose status has been in question. Emanuel Wilson also missed time this week, putting his availability in doubt as well. That means Seattle may need to piece things together against Dallas with a deeper group.
Velus Jones Jr. figures to get an extended look as a potential RB3, and his background as a receiver could make him a useful option out of the backfield. Seattle is also expected to turn to Jacardia Wright and rookies TJ Harden and Justin Jones in the matchup with the Cowboys.
For now, the wait continues on Price’s debut. The Seahawks could have him back next week against the Tennessee Titans.
