Seattle Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner is still making waves in free agency, alongside fellow icons Russell Wilson and Tyler Lockett. But unlike Wilson and Lockett, Wagner is still performing at a level that could see him starting for a team in need of his talents.
There’s buzz around the possibility of Wagner joining the Carolina Panthers, following in the footsteps of Hall of Famer Luke Kuechly, who spent his entire career with the Panthers. While Kuechly’s journey was singular, Wagner’s path has been more varied. After being a cap casualty in Seattle in 2022, Wagner had a stint with the Los Angeles Rams, returned briefly to Seattle, and has since been with the Washington Commanders for two seasons.
Wagner’s legacy with the Seahawks is undisputed. A future Hall of Famer, he was a consistent All-Pro from 2014 through 2024 and a key player in Seattle’s Super Bowl victory in the 2013 season. Despite not making an All-Pro team in 2025, his skills as an elite tackler and run-stopper remain top-notch, making him a valuable asset for any team eyeing a playoff run in 2026.
Seattle, however, seems to have moved on. Head coach Mike Macdonald prioritizes inside linebackers who excel in pass coverage, an area where Wagner hasn’t been as strong. While his leadership qualities are undeniable, the Seahawks already boast solid veteran leadership with players like Cooper Kupp, Leonard Williams, and Ernest Jones.
Wagner could ideally wrap up his illustrious career by signing a one-day contract to retire with the Seahawks, but he clearly has more to give on the field. The Panthers might just be the perfect fit for his next chapter, allowing him to chase another playoff appearance before hanging up his cleats.
