Seattle Mariners Prospects Shine in Spring Showdown Against Brewers

Mariners' top prospects shine despite a loss, with standout performances hinting at a promising future for Seattle's lineup.

The Seattle Mariners showcased their future stars during their annual Spring Breakout game against the Milwaukee Brewers in Phoenix. Despite a 7-3 loss, the Mariners' prospects, including all six ranked in MLB Pipeline’s top 100, offered plenty to be excited about.

Sloan’s Perfect Day

Ryan Sloan, a towering 6-foot-5 right-hander, delivered a standout performance that left a lasting impression. In what might be his final spring outing, Sloan pitched three perfect innings, striking out three batters in a sharp 39-pitch display.

Sloan kicked off his day by striking out the Brewers’ third-ranked prospect, Jett Williams, with a sizzling 96.5-mph sinker. He continued his dominance by fanning center fielder Luis Lara with a 97.5-mph four-seamer and ended his outing with a well-placed slider that caught first baseman Brock Wilken off guard. Sloan, the Mariners’ third-ranked prospect and No. 33 overall, generated six swings and misses on 18 swings, with his fastball averaging an impressive 97.9 mph.

Montes Shows Off Bat and Wheels

Lazaro Montes, known for his power, displayed his versatility with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. Montes, who smashed 32 homers last season, showcased his contact skills and speed.

In his first at-bat, Montes legged out an RBI single on a slow dribbler down the first base line. He followed that with a soft line-drive single and stole second base, putting himself in scoring position.

Montes capped his day with a sharply hit single up the middle, driving in another run. At 21, Montes is Seattle’s fourth-ranked prospect and No. 43 overall.

The Beast Unleashed

Yorger Bautista, aptly nicknamed “La Bestia,” joined Montes with a multi-hit game, making a big impact with his bat. Bautista launched a solo home run in the ninth inning, sending a cutter from Ryan Birchard over the right-field wall at a blistering 109.1 mph.

Earlier, he tripled to center field with a line drive that left the bat at 110.2 mph. Just 18 years old, Bautista was the Mariners’ top international signing last year and ranks as their 10th-best prospect.

The Mariners' showcase highlighted the potential of their young talent, giving fans plenty to look forward to as these prospects continue to develop.
