The Seattle Mariners are stepping into the 2026 season with sky-high expectations. As one of the American League favorites, they're eyeing some groundbreaking achievements: securing back-to-back division titles, reaching their first World Series, and perhaps even clinching their first championship.
Navigating a challenging 162-game season won't be a walk in the park, especially with formidable opponents like the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and Houston Astros in the mix. Yet, seasoned MLB insider Tim Kurkjian, in a recent chat on Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy, expressed confidence in the Mariners' potential to soar to new heights this year.
Kurkjian weighed in, saying, “When asked about the second-best team in baseball, aside from the Dodgers, I believe the Mariners are right in that conversation. They came close to the World Series last year, made key offseason upgrades, and if their rotation stays healthy, they’re a formidable team.”
The health of the Mariners’ rotation is already a concern, with Bryce Miller’s opening day status uncertain due to an oblique injury. However, Kurkjian remains optimistic about the team’s overall composition following a successful offseason.
“I don’t see any glaring weaknesses,” he noted. “Their offseason moves were smart.
Brendan Donovan will be pivotal in multiple roles, even though he could play second base daily. Rob Refsnyder’s addition is significant, and keeping their talented young pitchers was a wise decision-they’ll need every one of them.”
Kurkjian added, “The Mariners reaching the World Series would be a fantastic story, and winning it would be even better. I’m not cheering for them specifically, but I do root for compelling stories.
In that stunning ballpark and city, it’s high time this team achieves something truly remarkable. They came very close last year, and I believe they’re even stronger now.”
As the season unfolds, Mariners fans have plenty to be excited about, with the promise of thrilling baseball and the potential for historic milestones.
