The Mariners made a roster move Thursday that will keep rookie infielder Brock Rodden out for the rest of the regular season.
Seattle placed Rodden on the 10-day injured list with left patella tendon inflammation before opening its series against the Los Angeles Angels. To fill the spot, the club recalled infielder Leo Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma.
Rodden, 26, debuted in the majors on Aug. 14 and has played in 30 games for Seattle this season. The switch-hitter has hit .197/.306/.279 with three doubles, one triple and 10 walks against 24 strikeouts. He came out hot with a six-game hitting streak, but has hit just .146 over his last 24 games.
The IL move is retroactive to Sept. 23, and Rodden would be eligible to return for the American League Division Series if the Mariners reach the postseason. Seattle still needs help to get there, needing to win its final four games while Houston and Texas each lose their final four.
Rivas, 28, is back with the big-league club for his third stint this season. In 48 MLB games, he has hit .147/.270/.190 with three doubles, one triple and 16 walks to 39 strikeouts. At Tacoma this year, he posted a .243/.428/.339 line with three homers, two doubles, 33 walks and 38 strikeouts in 33 games.

Rick Rizzs is getting the kind of farewell that fits a Mariners institution: the longtime broadcaster is retiring after 41 years with the team and will be inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame next year. As Seattle moves toward the end of its 2026 season with games against the Angels still ahead, it is also a reminder of how much of the franchises recent identity has been built by people who have been around long enough to become part of the place.
J.P. Crawford belongs in that conversation too. The shortstop has been one of the Mariners more important players during his time in Seattle, and with free agency looming after the season, there is at least a chance these final games are his last in a Mariners uniform.
