In the Mariners' quest to dominate the American League, they've strategically locked in key players with long-term deals. This approach kicked off with J.P.
Crawford's five-year extension back in 2022. Soon after, Julio Rodríguez, the standout center fielder, secured a major contract following his explosive rookie season.
Not long after, ace pitcher Luis Castillo also committed to a five-year deal.
Last year, before Cal Raleigh's impressive 60-home run season, the Platinum Glove catcher signed a six-year extension. Building on their division title and AL Championship Series appearance, first baseman Josh Naylor re-upped with a five-year contract.
So, who’s on deck for an extension? Enter Logan Gilbert, the 28-year-old All-Star pitcher.
Set to become a free agent after the 2027 season, the Mariners are keen on keeping him in Seattle. General Manager Justin Hollander made it clear: “We would love to do something with Logan long-term.
He knows that.”
Gilbert has been a model of consistency, showing resilience even after a brief stint on the injured list. He wrapped up last season with a solid 2.52 ERA over his final seven starts. His postseason performance was equally impressive, especially against the Tigers, where he allowed just one earned run over eight innings in the AL Division Series.
Hollander and Mariners President Jerry Dipoto see extending Gilbert as a priority. “Logan knows how we as an organization feel about him,” Hollander stated.
“He’s a Mariner. He embodies everything great about this organization.”
Hollander emphasized the importance of retaining homegrown talent. “Drafting and developing pitchers like Logan, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, or Bryan Woo is rare.
Keeping them is crucial,” he said. “Securing players like Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez helps build continuity with a core we believe in.”
The Mariners are focused on maintaining a strong foundation, ensuring their homegrown stars remain at the heart of their future success.
