Mariners Just Sent A Clear Randy Arozarena Message

As the offseason stirrings begin, the Mariners make strategic roster changes, with a notable offer extended to star outfielder Randy Arozarena.

The Seattle Mariners opened the offseason with a busy Monday, trimming and reshaping their roster while also making a notable call on Randy Arozarena.

Seattle extended a qualifying offer to the pending free-agent outfielder, a one-year deal worth $23.15 million for the 2027 season. Arozarena is expected to turn it down after the best season of his big-league career, which should make him one of the most sought-after names on the market and set him up for a lucrative multi-year contract elsewhere. If he declines the offer and signs with another club, the Mariners would receive a compensation pick in the 2027 MLB Draft.

Arozarena was one of eight players across the league to receive the qualifying offer, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Players have until Nov. 17 to decide.

The roster churn didn’t stop there. Seven players were moved off the 60-day injured list and back onto the 40-man roster, while five others cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma. The 60-day injured list disappears in the offseason, which forces teams to make those roster adjustments.

The Mariners also announced earlier Monday that they had added reliever Isaac Mattson from the Pittsburgh Pirates, leaving them with 39 players on the 40-man roster.

Here’s the full list of Seattle’s Monday moves:

Returned from 60-day IL
RHP Matt Brash (right lat strain)

RHP Nick Davila (SC joint sprain)
OF Brennen Davis (left hamstring strain)

IF Colt Emerson (left wrist tendon repair)
RHP Logan Evans (eight elbow surgery)

OF/1B Luke Raley (left forearm strain)
1B/OF Michael Toglia (right shoulder dislocation)

Cleared waivers and outrighted to Triple-A
LHP Josh Simpson

RHP Troy Watson
IF/OF Weston Wilson

IF Will Wilson
IF Patrick Wisdom

Mariners Face A Real Brendan Donovan Fit Problem This Winter

Brendan Donovan opened the season looking like a useful offensive piece for the Mariners, but the year never really settled for him after the injuries started piling up. He was limited to 159 plate appearances, and while the early production was encouraging, the overall picture got murkier as the season went on and his bat cooled late.

The bigger winter question is where he actually fits if Seattle wants to keep him around. Donovans best defensive home appears to be second base, but that spot is already spoken for, and the other options are not especially clean either with his speed and arm strength trending in the wrong direction. For a club trying to sort out its infield and bench mix, he is the kind of player whose value is obvious in theory and a lot harder to pin down in practice. [Read more 🡒]

Mariners May Have Found A Third Base Bat With One Big Catch

The Mariners are still looking for more offense and a steadier answer at third base, and Si-Hwan Roh has surfaced as an intriguing possibility. Posted by the Hanwha Eagles, the left-handed bat has spent his career as a regular third baseman in South Korea and brings the kind of power production that can make a front office pause, especially for a Seattle club trying to squeeze more impact out of the lineup.

The catch is obvious: any team interested in Roh has to decide whether his glove can hold up at third every day and whether his swing can be shaped to handle MLB pitching. His power is real, but so are the concerns about his defensive range and strikeout rate, which means the Mariners would be weighing not just a bat, but a full transition plan if they decide to keep digging into the fit. Lou Piniella Gets Another Shot At Long Awaited Hall Call

Lou Piniella is back in the Hall of Fame conversation, this time on the contemporary era committee ballot for managers, executives and umpires that will be considered at the winter meetings on Dec. 6. The former Mariners manager is among eight candidates on a list that also includes Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, Joe Maddon, Sandy Alderson, Brian Sabean, Ted Turner and Bill White, with election requiring 75% of the vote.

For Seattle fans, Piniellas name still carries the weight of a defining era, even as the Hall process keeps asking the same question in a different room. He has come up short before, and this vote gives him another chance to finally break through, with the inductees set to be enshrined next July alongside the players chosen by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
