Mariners Issue Tough Carlos Vargas Injury Update

The Mariners are set for a shake-up on the mound as Carlos Vargas hits the IL and newcomer Cole Wilcox steps up for his Seattle debut.

Seattle's latest acquisition, right-hander Wilcox, is set to make waves with the Mariners. Acquired from Tampa Bay last November, Wilcox is gearing up for his debut with Seattle. Standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 232 pounds, this righty is ready to bring his talents to the mound.

Wilcox made his Major League debut with the Rays last September, delivering a solid inning of relief against Boston. Before that, he showcased his skills across 39 games in Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham, posting a 3.71 ERA over 51 innings.

His minor league journey with the Rays has been impressive, with a career ERA of 3.90 and 348 strikeouts over 369 innings. Originally drafted by the Padres in 2020, Wilcox was part of a trade that sent him to Tampa Bay in a deal involving Blake Snell.

Meanwhile, Vargas, another key player for the Mariners, made a significant impact last season. In 70 appearances, he recorded a 3.97 ERA with 54 strikeouts.

Vargas, hailing from Moca in the Dominican Republic, notched his first MLB win against Texas and secured a save against the Athletics. Having played parts of two Major League seasons with the Diamondbacks and Mariners, Vargas continues to be a reliable asset on the mound.

Originally signed by the Guardians, he joined Seattle in a trade with Arizona, bringing his talents to the Pacific Northwest.

Both Wilcox and Vargas are poised to be crucial contributors for the Mariners, each bringing their unique strengths and experiences to the team. As the season unfolds, fans will be watching closely to see how these players make their mark in Seattle.
