The Seattle Mariners have solidified their status as a powerhouse in developing pitching talent, and it's no wonder why. Their starting rotation, which topped the league two seasons ago, is a testament to their homegrown prowess, boasting stars like Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo.
Each of these pitchers has not only earned All-Star honors but also secured top-10 finishes in the American League Cy Young voting. Bryce Miller, in particular, made waves two years back with a remarkable 2.94 ERA over 180 1/3 innings.
But the Mariners' pipeline doesn't stop there. Two promising prospects, left-hander Kade Anderson and right-hander Ryan Sloan, are on the cusp of making their major league debuts.
Anderson, the third overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, is ranked as the No. 21 prospect in baseball, while Sloan, a second-round pick in 2024, holds the No. 33 spot. Both are expected to make their presence felt in the big leagues soon.
In a recent chat with Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob at Mariners camp in Peoria, Arizona, Anderson shared his enthusiasm about joining the Mariners. The LSU standout expressed his hope that Seattle would select him, influenced by his pitching coach's insights into the Mariners' exceptional development program.
“Draft day was a whirlwind of emotions,” Anderson reflected. “But even before it all began, I was hoping for the Mariners.
My coach at LSU, who had ties to Oregon State, always spoke highly of their pitching development. I truly believe the team you join plays a huge role, and I feel fortunate to be here.”
The Mariners' good fortune extended beyond just landing Anderson. They secured the No. 3 pick in the draft lottery and were able to snag Anderson, who was widely considered the top pitching prospect, after the Angels opted for Tyler Bremner at No. 2.
As Anderson dives into his first spring camp, he's soaking up knowledge from the Mariners' elite rotation. “This rotation is something special,” he said. “Each pitcher has their own unique style, and it's been incredible to watch them work and learn from their routines.”
The Mariners' future on the mound looks bright, with these rising stars ready to make their mark.
