Seattle Torrent GM Meghan Turner and Boston Fleet GM Danielle Marmer have a long-standing relationship that now includes a new chapter: trading partners. In a notable swap, the Torrent acquired veteran forward Theresa Schafzahl in exchange for Jessie Eldridge. Both players, in their third PWHL season, have contracts expiring at season's end.
Turner described Schafzahl as a steady and reliable force, capable of lifting her teammates with gritty plays. Schafzahl, who has spent her entire PWHL career with Boston, was initially picked in the 7th round of the inaugural draft.
With eight goals and nine assists across 69 games, her presence on the ice is undeniable. Her most recent goal came in a victory over Boston, marking Seattle's first win against the Fleet this season.
Hailing from Weiz, Austria, Schafzahl has represented her national team seven times in the IIHF Women’s World Championships. Her collegiate career at the University of Vermont was stellar, leaving as the Catamounts' all-time leader in goals and assists.
On the other side of the trade, Jessie Eldridge brings proven scoring ability to Boston. In her time with Seattle, she notched seven goals and 13 points in just 19 games.
Marmer praised Eldridge's high hockey IQ and dual-threat capabilities, highlighting her knack for creating scoring opportunities. Eldridge, from Barrie, Ontario, spent her first two PWHL seasons with New York and recently became the ninth player in league history to surpass 50 career points.
Seattle's decision to go younger with their forward group is partly due to injuries to key players like Hilary Knight and Hannah Bilka, who are currently on long-term injury reserve. Both were instrumental in Team USA's gold medal win at the Winter Olympics.
Off the ice, Knight and Bilka recently made headlines at the Academy Awards. Knight dazzled in a black velvet suit by Christian Siriano, while Bilka turned heads in a copper strapless gown. Their presence on the red carpet showcased their versatility and star power beyond the rink.
