Kraken Rangers Matchup Could Shape One Young Forwards Next Chance

The Seattle Kraken face off against the New York Rangers as they aim to build momentum before heading to the Global Series in Finland.

The Seattle Kraken close out their two-game homestand Saturday night against the New York Rangers, with the matchup on Nov. 7 serving as the first meeting between the clubs in the 2026-27 NHL season.

Seattle is looking to finish the homestand with a sweep, and there are a couple of roster notes worth watching as the team gets set for its final game before the Global Series.

Matthew Wood made his Kraken debut Wednesday against the Calgary Flames after being acquired in the trade for Shane Wright. Wood logged 17:35 of ice time across 22 shifts, put one shot on goal and came close to picking up his first point with Seattle. As the Kraken try to keep the homestand rolling, he’ll be a player to track again.

The Kraken also moved Curtis Douglas to injured reserve and responded by calling up Jagger Firkus from the American Hockey League. Firkus has been producing for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, where he has 12 points in 12 games this season.

This is his first NHL call-up, though he won’t make his debut against the Rangers because he is a healthy scratch. If Douglas stays on IR over the next few days, Firkus would likely remain on the roster and travel with the Kraken to Finland, where there’s a chance he could make his NHL debut in the Global Series.

Seattle’s projected lineup has Bobby McMann with Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle on the top line, while Wood skates with Frederick Gaudreau and Chandler Stephenson. Kaapo Kakko is listed alongside Berkly Catton and Mackie Samoskevich, and Jani Nyman rounds out the forward group with Ben Meyers and Ryan Winterton.

On defense, the pairs are Vince Dunn with Adam Larsson, Ryker Evans with Brandon Montour, and Josh Mahura with Ville Ottavainen. Joey Daccord is projected to start in goal, with Philipp Grubauer backing him up.

Kraken Blue Line Plans Suddenly Center On Two Massive Decisions

The Krakens blue line has become a focal point for two very different reasons, and both could shape how the roster looks going forward. Vince Dunn remains in contract extension talks with Seattle, with discussions stretching back to early October, while the club is also keeping tabs on Detroit defenseman Simon Edvinsson, a young blueliner who has emerged as a coveted trade target around the league.

For Seattle, the timing matters because neither situation is close to being resolved, which leaves the team weighing its present core against a possible major addition. Dunn has been a key piece of the defense, and Edvinsson represents the kind of high-upside option that does not come cheaply, so the Kraken are navigating two negotiations with very different paths and no clear finish line yet. Kraken Are Building A Stronger Bond With Seattle Military Families

The Kraken and Starbucks kept a growing tradition rolling at Kraken Community Iceplex, where military families gathered for the third annual Army vs. Navy Hockey Game and a free open skate. The event was built around connection as much as competition, giving families a chance to skate, watch, and spend time together in a setting that has become a familiar part of the teams outreach.

Seattles support for the military community is not stopping there, either. The organization is carrying that appreciation into an upcoming home game against the New York Rangers, with discounted tickets and military-themed merchandise part of the broader effort to recognize active-duty service members and veterans.
