The Seattle Kraken added one more piece to their roster picture just hours before dropping the puck on their season.
Seattle announced Thursday afternoon that it has completed a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, sending center David Goyette to Philly in exchange for winger Devin Kaplan. Both players are 22 and have spent their careers in the minors so far.
Kaplan’s path to Seattle includes a brief NHL stop already. The New Jersey native was a third-round pick by the Flyers in the 2022 NHL Draft after playing at Boston University. He signed with Philadelphia in April 2025 and debuted two days later, skating a little more than 12 minutes in what remains his lone NHL appearance.
The 6-foot-2, 199-pound winger spent his first full pro season in 2025-26 with Lehigh Valley of the AHL, where he put up 13 points on five goals and eight assists in 49 games.
Goyette heads the other way after being selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft out of the OHL. Listed at 5-10 and 172 pounds, he has played the last four seasons with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the Kraken’s AHL affiliate, and recorded 10 points on three goals and seven assists in 51 games last season.
Kaplan is expected to join the Firebirds, who open their AHL season on Friday.
For Seattle, the move came right before the start of an 84-game NHL schedule that begins Thursday night at 6 p.m. on the road against the Calgary Flames.

Kraken Sent An Early Message About What This Team Could Be
The season opener could hardly have gone much better for the Kraken, who rolled past Calgary and immediately showed the kind of depth and pace this roster wants to lean on. Jordan Eberle, Vince Dunn and Freddy Gaudreau all struck in the first period, giving Seattle an early cushion and an instant jolt of confidence in front of a home crowd that had to like what it saw.
The scoring kept coming late, with Chandler Stephenson, Matty Beniers and Kaapo Kakko all adding goals in the third to turn a strong start into a statement win. Joey Daccord was steady throughout in net and even got involved in the offense, a reminder that Seattles night was about more than just an opening-night result. [Read more 🡒]
Seattle Torrent Finally Get Their First Real Place In The PWHL
The Seattle Torrent finally have something that feels like a real home base in the PWHL, with the league releasing the clubs 2026-27 schedule and putting Seattle on a full-season path in its own building. For the first time, the league has enough teams to split into Western and Eastern Conferences, and Seattle lands in the Western side as the new structure starts to take shape.
Climate Pledge Arena will host 15 home dates on a 30-game slate, giving the Torrent a steadier presence in front of local fans after arriving as the league continued to expand. The schedule also includes four Takeover Tour stops at neutral sites, a reminder that even with a clearer home identity now in place, the league is still trying to broaden its footprint while Seattle settles into its first real place on the map.
